Based on Tests Conducted in 2021 in São Paulo, We Detail the Performance of the Electric Motorcycle ZX, Costs, and the Law Behind the Launch of the Electric Motorcycle ZX.
In 2021, the company Wayy Mobility introduced the Electric Motorcycle ZX to the Brazilian market, presenting it as an economical urban mobility solution. To put the model to the test, comprehensive tests were conducted with the motorcycle on the streets of São Paulo.
The analysis revealed a vehicle with surprising acceleration and a very low cost per kilometer for the time, but also raised crucial points about the legal requirements to ride it, defined by the Contran (National Traffic Council).
Understand all the information from the tests, from riding impressions to the technical data provided by Wayy and the current legislation, so that you grasp the full context of this launch.

The Test in São Paulo, Riding Impressions
During the tests in 2021, the first characteristic noted was the absence of noise, followed by an extremely strong initial acceleration. The immediate response of the electric motor required careful control of the throttle to avoid “jumping.” In the traffic of the São Paulo capital, this agility allowed the ZX to stand out at traffic lights.
The motorcycle reached a top speed of 76 km/h, considered suitable for daily use in the city. The lightness and ease of maneuvering in traffic were also highlighted, as the ride is simplified by the absence of a clutch and gears, with the brakes located on the levers.
How Much Did Wayy Claim It Would Cost in 2021?

One of Wayy’s biggest selling points at the time was the cost. According to the company, based on the energy prices of 2021, a motorcyclist who traveled 210 km in a week would spend only R$ 4.20 to recharge the battery, a cost of approximately R$ 0.02 per kilometer.
The purchase price announced for the Electric Motorcycle ZX started at R$ 17 thousand. Wayy offered financing options for up to 18 times on credit cards or in 48 installments through Banco Santander. Maintenance, as reported by the manufacturer, was simple and inexpensive, focusing on items such as brake fluid, tires, and pads. The battery had a lifespan of 1,500 cycles, with a replacement cost of R$ 4,000.
The 3,000 Watt Motor and Its Specifications
The motor of the ZX, located in the rear wheel, has 3,000 watts of power. As it is electric, it has no cylinders and therefore is not measured in cubic centimeters. At the time, Wayy itself stated that its performance was comparable to that of a combustion motorcycle with 44 cubic centimeters.
The company also assured that the motor was designed to withstand rain without risk of damage or electric shock, although it recommended, as with any vehicle, to avoid driving through flooded areas.
From LED Lights to Keyless Start
During the tests, it was observed that the aggressive design of the ZX resembled models from the “Z” line of Kawasaki, and its headlight had similarities with that of the Yamaha MT-03. All the lighting was LED, a positive safety point, since the motorcycle is silent.
The Electric Motorcycle ZX was presented with various factory technologies, including:
Disc brakes on both wheels.
Two riding modes and the “Park” function (parking brake).
Reverse gear to facilitate maneuvers.
Factory-integrated alarm.
Keyless start with presence sensor.
What the Resolutions of The Contran Say About the Electric Motorcycle ZX
A fundamental point clarified in the tests was the legal issue. According to Brazilian legislation, the Electric Motorcycle ZX must indeed be registered. To ride it, it is mandatory to have a driver’s license in the A or ACC category.
This requirement is based on the Resolutions 465 and 315 of the Contran, which define the characteristics of an “electric cycle” (vehicles that may have more lenient rules). The ZX, due to its dimensions and because it exceeds the maximum speed of 50 km/h, does not fit into this category. Therefore, the payment of IPVA is also mandatory, although some states offer exemptions or discounts as an incentive for electric vehicles.

Mas que moto elétrica com um tamanho de um tanque daquele !!!??.. 😆
