1919 Harley-Davidson Found in the USA Dismantled, but Complete, with Original Parts Preserved and Ready for Manual Restoration

Vintage motorcycles draw attention, but finding one over 100 years old stored in boxes is rare. That’s exactly what happened with a 1919 Harley-Davidson Model J. It was dismantled, but with all original parts preserved, ready to be restored by a group of YouTubers in the United States.

The motorcycle was carefully maintained. All parts were organized in boxes, from the chassis to the screws.

According to the restorers, it was evident that there was care from the person who dismantled the bike in the past. The expectation now is to bring it back to life, piece by piece.

A Historic Model of Harley

Harley-Davidson started making motorcycles in 1903. The found model is from 1919, just 16 years after the brand’s inception.

The Model J stood out as one of the first reliable, powerful, and comfortable motorcycles of its time.

It featured a 45° V-twin engine, with 61 cubic inches, a 6-volt battery, and coil ignition.

In the video, the restorers appear cleaning each part, comparing it with old manuals, checking serial numbers, and tuning the engine.

Part of the work is based on techniques that are no longer taught today. The gearbox, for example, requires specific adjustments. The tires are cracked, lacking the smell of rubber for decades.

Parts That Still Work After 100 Years

The most surprising thing is that several parts continue to function. With a simple cleaning, many components started operating normally again, even after a century.

For those involved, this demonstrates the quality of engineering of the time — and perhaps a bit of luck, too.

The expectation now is to complete the restoration and make the motorcycle run again. Not as a museum piece, but as a functioning vehicle.

The experience of seeing the 1919 Model J come to life, a hundred years later, has moved those involved.

Historical Value and Growing Market

Vintage models like this have been attracting attention in the market. Last year, one of the first Harley-Davidsons in history was sold for nearly a million dollars.

The restoration of the Model J may follow a similar path — but for the restorers, the most important thing is to see it running again.
