Neoenergia Invests R$ 47 Million in the New Rio das Éguas III Substation in Bahia. Discover the Impact of the Project on Infrastructure and Agriculture in the Region.
Neoenergia has taken another step in strengthening the electrical infrastructure of western Bahia by announcing an investment of R$ 47 million in the construction of the new Rio das Éguas III substation. Located in the municipality of Correntina, the unit will be connected by 22 km of 138 kV subtransmission line, integrating Neoenergia Coelba’s expansion plan for the region.
The official announcement took place during the Bahia Farm Show 2025, the largest agribusiness and technology fair in the North and Northeast, reinforcing the importance of the project for the development of the agricultural sector and the local economy.
What the New Substation Represents in Bahia
The new substation in Bahia is considered strategic for ensuring a reliable and secure supply of electricity in areas of strong economic growth. The SE Rio das Éguas III will have the capacity to serve the municipalities of Correntina and Jaborandi, regions in significant expansion in agribusiness, with large areas of irrigated production.

According to Neoenergia, the project is part of a robust investment plan that foresees more than R$ 2.2 billion until 2027 just in the Extreme West of Bahia. The expectation is that the new substation will be operational by July 2025, contributing to the increase in energy supply and improving service quality in the region.
Impacts of the Investment on the Economy and Infrastructure
The investment in the new substation is part of a larger plan that includes the implementation of 10 new substations, the expansion of 15 others, and the construction of more than 1,600 km of high and medium voltage lines between 2024 and 2027.
These actions will virtually double the energy capacity of western Bahia, creating conditions for the growth of cities, attracting new industrial investments, and expanding agricultural activities.
According to the company, in 2024 alone, five new substations have already been delivered, increasing energy supply by more than 51.6 MVA — enough to supply a city with over 100,000 inhabitants.
The Partnership with Agribusiness and Strengthening the Sector
In addition to the electrical infrastructure, Neoenergia Coelba signed a cooperation agreement with the Bahia Association of Farmers and Irrigators (AIBA) during the Bahia Farm Show. The partnership aims to support the agricultural sector with specific solutions for its demands, including:
- Creation of an exclusive technical and commercial support channel for producers;
- Joint actions to prevent theft of electrical network equipment;
- Active participation of the distributor in Operation Safra;
- Training of Neoenergia teams to support the agricultural sector;
- Training for producers on the safe and efficient use of energy;
- Strategic monitoring of the network using technology and data analysis to identify critical points.
The goal is to integrate energy supply with agricultural development, ensuring productivity and safety.
The Role of Neoenergia in Regional Development
For Neoenergia, the projects in western Bahia are more than infrastructure works: they represent a commitment to the economic and social development of the region.
The company’s CEO, Eduardo Capelastegui, highlighted that the investments made help create new opportunities for rural areas and cities while ensuring greater reliability for the electric system.
“Neoenergia is being a driver of development in western Bahia. These investments translate into productivity, energy security, and economic growth,” said Capelastegui during the event.
Why Western Bahia Is a Priority for New Energy Investments
Western Bahia is one of the main hubs of the Brazilian agribusiness, with notable production of grains, cotton, and other high-value crops. The region concentrates high-tech agricultural properties and faces population growth in cities that accompany the sector’s expansion.
In this context, ensuring quality electricity is crucial for the operation of irrigation systems, processing agricultural products, storage, and other activities that support the local economy. Therefore, the new substation in Bahia is seen as strategic not only to meet current demand but also to sustain future development.
The coming years should mark the continuous expansion of Neoenergia’s infrastructure in the state. With the R$ 2.2 billion planned until 2027, the company aims to modernize the electrical network, increase operational efficiency, and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
Among the objectives are reducing losses in the network, expanding automation technologies, and integrating renewable energy sources into the system.
