Drivers aged 50 or over can receive a discount when renewing their driver's license. However, the Bill is still under discussion in the Government.
Great news for Brazilians over 50 years old. A new Bill under discussion in the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) could guarantee that drivers aged 50 or over receive discounts when renewing their National Driving License (CNH). PL 5.153/2023, proposed by senator Fernando Dueire (MDB-PE), aims to reduce the rate by 50% for drivers between 50 and 70 years old and by 70% for those aged 70 or over. The senator argues that charging the same for everyone, regardless of the renewal period, is unfair, and wants to promote more inclusion in traffic.
Senator Fernando Dueire proposes a new Bill to reduce the amount paid for drivers aged 50 or over to renew their driver's license
The Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) is debating a Bill that could benefit drivers aged 50 or over when renewing their National Driving License (CNH).
The project, authored by senator Fernando Dueire (MDB-PE), intends to provide a discount on the administrative fee charged for renewing driver's licenses.

PL 5.153/2023 proposes a 50% reduction in the fee for drivers aged between 50 and 70 years old.
For those aged 70 and over, the reduction can reach 70%. The idea behind the project is to ease the financial burden on older drivers, considering that they often need to renew their driver's licenses more frequently.
Bill provides for more inclusion in traffic
Senator Fernando Dueire argues that charging the same administrative fee for all drivers, regardless of the driver's license renewal period, is unfair.
He highlights the example of a 75-year-old man, who needs to renew his license every 3 years, thus paying a higher percentage of the amount charged to younger drivers.
Dueire argues that the Bill aims to promote equality and inclusion in traffic, ensuring that the charge is proportional to the validity period of the driver's license.
According to him, this would be a way to make the system fairer and more equitable for all drivers.
Senator Teresa Leitão (PT-PE), rapporteur of the project, expresses support for the proposal. She highlights that granting a discount on driver's license renewal for people over 50 is an essential measure for the coming years.
If approved by the CAE, the project will go to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), where its fate will be decided.
Now, it is up to the body whether or not to follow the Bill proposed by the senator.
