New Mercedes electric SUV hits the market with state-of-the-art technology and seven-seat option

Mercedes has expanded its electric car lineup with the introduction of its new EQS SUV. Brazil will be able to enjoy autonomous technology in the coming years.

Offering the option of up to seven seats, the Mercedes EQS electric SUV has the same level of design and technology as the company's EQS sedan, but with a more spacious and practical body. It will be available with three different powertrain models in the EQS450+, EQS450 4Matic and EQS580 4Matic. The entry point EQS450+ uses a rear-wheel drive configuration, bringing 355bhp and 568Nm, as well as a range of between 315 and 660km.

Inside, there's a spacious and practical cabin with room for up to seven people, while the middle row has a range of electrical adjustments, meaning it can be moved forwards or backwards depending on whether you need more room for your passengers. legs or the trunk. All cars come with five seats as standard, with the two extra chairs added as an optional extra.

Even with the second row placed in its rearmost position, there's still 654 liters of space in the trunk, increasing to 880 liters with them slid forward. With all the seats down, 2.100 liters of space are freed up. These numbers decrease slightly in the seven-seat version, with 195 liters available with all seats in place, or 800 liters with the last row folded down. All seats folded down provide up to 2.020 liters of storage.

Autonomy of 660 km and autonomous technology are highlights of the model

Up front, you'll find the latest Hyperscreen system from Mercedes. Available as an option, it combines three screens beneath a curved piece of glass to create one super-wide display. There's a front passenger display, a center display for navigation and media functions, and then a full driver display.

There is also the option of having two 11,6-inch displays located on the driver and front passenger seat backrests, providing additional entertainment for middle row occupants.

The exterior of the EQS SUV follows the example of the company's other electric cars, with a large front light bar connecting the slim headlights, with an understated black grille placed in the middle. Recessed door handles complete the streamlined look, while alloy wheels are available in sizes up to 22 inches.

A Mercedes-Benz electric car exceeds 1.000 km of autonomy

The Mercedes Vision EQXX prototype covered the distance between the German automaker's headquarters and the French Riviera, ending the trip with 15% of its battery power still intact. According to the German manufacturer, the car traveled from Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart, through Switzerland and Italy, to the Mediterranean coastal town of Cassis, France.

Considered “the most efficient and aerodynamic electric car”, the EQXX was presented at CES 2022 in Las Vegas, when it was estimated to have a range of around 1.000 km. Indeed, according to Ola Kallenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, “the technology program behind this prototype marks a milestone in the development of electric vehicles”.

Mercedes plans to spend 60 billion euros by 2026 to overtake Tesla in the field of electric cars and reclaim the title of the world's best-selling premium car brand from rival BMW.

After years of criticism for delaying the adoption of electric cars, the German manufacturer intensified its transformation by launching the Mercedes EQS, a luxury vehicle with a range of around 560 km. More recently, the brand has also launched the EQB and EQE electric models, but it remains behind Tesla in the field of zero-emission vehicle sales.

With the EQXX, Mercedes is trying to prove that it can overcome the Tesla even in the strong points of this company, the electric autonomy. The prototype traveled between Sindelfingen and Cassis at speeds of up to 140 km/h and arrived at its destination with 15% of its battery still charged.
