The Biomass Project in Rio Grande do Sul

According to the project, the biomass plant will produce clean and renewable energy from rice hulls, estimating a monthly production of 8 MW of energy, which is capable of serving a city with 100,000 inhabitants.

According to data from the Department of Finance, of the R$ 50 million allocated for implementation, about R$ 3 million will remain with the municipality. The projection is that Uruguaiana will collect, annually, R$ 9 million in the Service Tax of Any Nature (ISSQN) starting from the moment the plant begins operations. The concession site is located in the Charqueada locality, approximately 10 kilometers from the city. The installation process in the city of Rio Grande do Sul is expected to take between 18 and 24 months.

The biomass plant in Mato Grosso do Sul officially began operations and will generate several job opportunities. The plant’s construction had already been completed, but the final tests of the boiler, turbine, and uninterrupted energy production were still pending for the MS Plant to be registered as completed with the National Electric System Operator (ONS).

The biomass plant in MS is powered by stumps and roots of eucalyptus and was named Onça Pintada. It operates within the Eldorado Brazil cellulose factory complex in Três Lagoas. The tests for the biomass plant lasted four days, during which it needed to operate continuously to prove that it had completed the necessary stages to begin operations.

The MS plant uses steam produced by burning organic materials, which are the unused stumps and roots of eucalyptus. This rotational steam comes from a turbine connected to a generator that produces electricity. Thus, it is possible for the biomass plant to utilize the entire eucalyptus crop. The energy generated by the biomass plant will also be sold to Aneel.
