Curitiba, January 2021 – Novozymes launches a new product, Quara Boost, a combination of Phospholipase C enzymes, called Quara Boost, which can be incorporated directly into the process of chemical neutralization of vegetable oils, an important input for the Brazilian industry. To present the advantages and benefits of this product, the Danish multinational will participate in a webinar, promoted by AOCS (American Society of Chemical Oils), on the next day January 26th at 11am with the theme “Increase your oil yield: innovation in enzymes for chemical neutralization plants”, whose participation is free and registrations can be made on the website of the AOCS, with the participation of Andersom Cattoni, Novozymes' global marketing manager for vegetable oil processing, who will interview two of the greatest technical specialists in the Industry here in Brazil, Renan Marangoni, from Novozymes, and Danilo Lima, managing partner of brprocess.

Benefits of Quara Boos for the Vegetable Oil Industry
After intensive technical and plant research, Novozymes demonstrates that its combination of Phospholipase C enzymes, called Quara Boost, can be incorporated directly into the process of chemically neutralizing vegetable oils (rather than just being used in a separate step of aqueous degumming). This results in significantly higher yields and preserves the final oil quality from alkaline refining.
The enzyme-assisted chemical process can also generate processing savings by skipping the initial aqueous degumming and centrifugation step. “This is a specific solution for vegetable oils. As Brazil is one of the main producers of vegetable oil in the world, focused on the most different applications, this new solution offered by Novozymes allows industries to make a small change in the plant to have a significant yield, of around 2%, which which is a very significant competitive differential in the productive market”, explains Cattoni.
According to the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove), the country manufactured around 8,83 million tons of soy oil last year, with a potential loss of 397,5 thousand tons, or approximately 436 million tons. liters. “Replacing the chemical processes used in the degumming of vegetable oils by enzymes helps to increase the yield of pre-treatment processes and convert losses into gains for companies in the sector”, highlights the manager.
Enzymes and market innovation
Pioneers in the sector since 1925, Novozymes is among the 100 most innovative companies in the world, and also the best employer, at a global level, in the scientific area, according to the American magazine Science Magazine, considering, exclusively, industries in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical and similar products and is among the main Best Companies to Work For in Brazil, with a team that created, implemented and applies, on a day-to-day basis, four main values that guide the company's work in the country.
Thanks to biotechnology, Novozymes is able to develop sustainable solutions for the manufacture of inputs for a whole range of the production chain, ranging from the food products sector, textiles, cleaning, as well as water treatment, as the use of enzymes acts as a natural catalyst in chemical reactions. The company offers a portfolio of more than 700 products. More information: www.novozymes.com.br
