The Lula Field Is About to Reach 1 Million Barrels of Oil Produced Per Day, Needing Only FPSO P-67 to Be Among the Top 3 Producers in the World
The largest oil-producing field in Brazil is approaching a significant milestone: Soon it will be producing 1 million barrels of oil per day, relying solely on the successful allocation of FPSO P-67 to reach this mark. The field already has 8 FPSOs interconnected to 41 wells that last December produced about 900,000 bpd of high-quality surplus oil.
The challenges have been and still are immense, but Brazil has great potential to return to being one of the largest oil producers in the world.
Lula Field – Technical Details
Milestones
-
Without cement, without steel, and using only earth and recycled cardboard, engineers have created a construction system that drastically reduces carbon emissions and could change the way houses are built around the world.
-
Alert in the electric sector: excess solar energy triggers overload in the Brazilian electrical system, forces the operator to shut down power plants, and exposes an unexpected risk that could affect stability and energy costs.
-
Russia spent $5 billion and 28 years modernizing a nuclear warship that had been inactive since 1997. The Admiral Nakhimov returned to the sea in August 2025 as the heaviest surface combat ship in the world, with 176 missile launchers, including hypersonic Zircon missiles.
-
James Webb finds 300 galaxies with mysterious scars, and this discovery may show that the universe was born much more violently than astronomers had imagined.
- 2000: BM-S-11 from the 2nd Round of Bidding
- 2006: Discovery Well RJS-628 (Tupi)
- 2009: Achieved 1st Oil – in the TLD
- 2016: Production of 500 Mbpd
There are three major operators producing in Lula: Petrobras (65%), Shell (25%), and Petrogal (10%)
The features of the field are: Largest oil producer in the country, estimated reserves of 6.5 billion BOE, average API gravity of 31 (light oil), with sulfur content of 0.32%

Currently, there are a total of 8 FPSOs and 41 interconnected wells. “They are studying an additional FPSO in West Lula. It will be the third-largest oil-producing well in the world after the Permian in the USA and the largest oil well in Saudi Arabia,” states Heleno Guimarães Carvalho, a professional in the administration field at Petrobras.
