With a Price of R$ 239,800, SUV Updates Its Main Highlight, the Electric Range, But How Does BYD’s New Hybrid Position Itself Against Strong Competition?
The new BYD hybrid, the Song Plus DM-i, arrived in the 2025 lineup with a clear mission: to reinforce its leadership in the SUV market. The main change is a significantly larger battery, which increases the capacity to drive daily using only electricity. Launched in June 2025 with a price of R$ 239,800, the model continues its bet on a luxury interior finish and plenty of technology to win over consumers.
This update, however, came with some trade-offs. The new battery made the car heavier, directly impacting its fuel consumption when the gasoline engine kicks in. BYD’s strategy defines the Song Plus 2025 as an even more specialized vehicle for those seeking the comfort and economy of electric mode in urban use.
What Has Really Changed in the 2025 Lineup?
The most important change in the new BYD hybrid was in its powertrain. The battery, which previously had 8.3 kWh, more than doubled its capacity, increasing to 18.3 kWh. This change, according to INMETRO data, resulted in a purely electric range of 68 kilometers. In practice, many drivers will be able to complete their daily commutes without spending a drop of gasoline.

On the other hand, the increased weight of the battery had an impact on fuel consumption. Tests by specialized press, such as those from Quatro Rodas magazine, showed that when the car runs in hybrid mode (with the battery depleted), the consumption worsened in comparison to the previous model. The numbers were 18.1 km/l in the city and 16.1 km/l on the highway, while the 2024 model was more economical under those conditions.
The Engineering Behind Smoothness, How the DM-i System Works

The driving experience of the Song Plus is very similar to that of a 100% electric vehicle, and this is due to its intelligent hybrid system, the DM-i. It combines a 1.5 gasoline engine with 105 hp and an electric motor with 194 hp, resulting in a combined power of 235 hp.
The big difference with this system is that, for the most part, the wheel traction is handled by the electric motor. The gasoline engine primarily acts as a generator, producing energy for the battery and the electric motor. It only connects directly to the wheels at higher and constant highway speeds, seeking maximum efficiency. This ensures extremely smooth and quiet driving.
The Cabin is the Highlight, Luxury and Technology
Where the Song Plus really shines and justifies its reputation is in the interior. The quality of the finish is a unanimous highlight, with soft-touch materials and careful assembly giving a sense of a higher-category vehicle. The dashboard is dominated by two large screens, including the iconic 15.6-inch rotating multimedia center.
The interior space is another strong point. With a completely flat rear floor, comfort for those traveling in the middle is guaranteed. The trunk, with a capacity of 574 liters, is one of the largest in the segment, making the SUV a very practical option for families.
The SUV Battle, BYD’s New Hybrid Against the GWM Haval H6
The choice of a new BYD hybrid inevitably involves comparison with its biggest rival, the GWM Haval H6 PHEV. Both have nearly identical prices but offer very different propositions.
The Haval H6 focuses on performance, with 326 hp of combined power, being much faster than the Song Plus. Meanwhile, the BYD prioritizes comfort, with a softer suspension and a quieter cabin. The Haval’s biggest advantage, however, is the presence of a fast charging port (DC), which allows the battery to be charged during trips much more quickly, a convenience that the Song Plus does not offer. The decision between the two boils down to what the buyer values more: the performance and charging convenience of the GWM or the luxury and driving comfort of the BYD.
