Generating Falcons Will Install Solar Panels in 240 Houses in a Slum in the Interior of São Paulo. Per Year, with the Use of Solar Energy, Families in the Region Will Have Savings of Up to 6 Thousand

The Marte Slum, located in São José do Rio Preto in the interior of São Paulo state, will be responsible for producing its own electricity, through solar panels with total self-sustainability. The initiative is part of the Favela 3D (Digital, Dignified and Developed) project by the organization Generating Falcons. According to the director of social technologies of the organization, Nina Rentel, the initiative using solar energy aims to build innovative slums through sustainability and technology. Solar Energy Project in São Paulo Will Be Funded by Banco BV and Meu Financiamento Solar

A total of 240 houses will benefit from solar energy through the project by Generating Falcons. Equipment such as solar panels and their installation will be funded by Meu Financiamento Solar, a digital platform focused on solar energy projects for individuals and companies, and Banco BV.

The steelmaker Gerdau and Banco Bradesco are also strong supporters of the project. According to Tiago Soares, Executive Manager of Sustainability at BV, the mission is to promote energy transition in Brazil, besides the social aspect which is essential, considering that the bank will provide training for solar panel installers within the community in São Paulo.

Generating Falcons’ Solar Energy Project Could Generate Savings of Up to R$ 6 Thousand for Benefited Residents

According to estimates from Generating Falcons, each family benefiting from the solar panels will save between R$ 4 thousand and R$ 6 thousand per year on electricity bills.

Furthermore, families can also participate in a free community leadership course, and it is estimated that the solar energy project could generate an additional 350 jobs in the community. Another part of the project is the urban renewal of the entire community thanks to a partnership made with the São Paulo state government.

In total, the investment will reach R$ 58 million, divided between the state government, Generating Falcons, and the municipality of São José do Rio Preto. The idea is that the installation of solar panels and the construction of affordable houses will be completed by next year.

Meet Generating Falcons

The Generating Falcons institute was created to encourage young people from the periphery to fight for a better future and transform their reality. The movement began in 2011, with small actions and big ideas from young entrepreneur Eduardo Lyra, who was born and raised in a slum in São Paulo.

Currently, the Institute is present in various peripheries, communities, and prisons, working in three areas: culture, sports, and income. The projects have positively impacted the lives of more than 100,000 children and teenagers, allowing young people to see a broader range of advancement options and life projects.
