The Strength Of Supermercado Guanabara
Founded in 1950, Guanabara is a 100% family-owned company that started as a grocery store in the Piedade neighborhood, in the northern zone of Rio.
Created by a family of Portuguese immigrants, the business grew to become the absolute leader in the food retail market in the state in terms of sales volume.
The chain follows a clear strategy. It does not seek to be the most technological or the most modern. The priority is to be present in consumers’ daily routines and maintain competitive prices. “We want going to the supermarket to be a pleasurable part of a person’s day, not just an obligation,” says president Antonio Pinho in an interview with EXAME.
Impressive Results
According to company data, one quarter of everything sold in the state’s food retail passes through its stores.
Even with only 28 units, revenue exceeds 10 billion reais, indicating a robust performance and a high sales volume per store.
