Back to using gasoline? Electric car owners in California say they don't like to wait for their car to recharge

The ease provided by the use of electric cars can be a problem for those who do not like to wait and end up returning to gasoline-powered cars. This is what happened in California, according to data collected through a survey.

Back to Gasoline

Tired of waiting for their electric cars to fully recharge, one in five owners of new generation battery-powered electric vehicles in the United States say they do not like to wait and, for this reason, would be returning to the traditional model of gasoline-powered cars .

As an example in practice, we have the acclaimed Ford Mustang and a Mach-E electric car, fill the tank of the Ford Mustang it would take much less than five minutes at a gas station, with that the Mustang could run an average of 400 km. However, even leaving your electric car plugged in for an hour, the number of possible kilometers to be traveled would be only 5km.

Experts Blame Existing U.S. Plug Standard

The standard of existing outlets in US homes would only be 120 volts, which for electric car charging is classified as “Level 1”. To maintain the autonomy of an electric vehicle, it is necessary to have at least sockets with a bivolt standard with a power of 240 volts, which would be classified as “Level 2”.

Thus, 70% of consumers of electric cars do not have this standard of sockets in their homes, cannot find them at work or on the streets – making it almost impossible to fully recharge their vehicles.

“If you don't have access to a Tier 2 source, it's almost impossible to maintain an electric one,” explains Kevin Tynan, automotive journalist for Bloomberg. The specialist says that he has tested several brands and models over the years for his research.

The delay in charging time for electric cars may become a stumbling block in the future, even if there are already plans in the market for the sale of vehicles that reach 100% recharge in less than 20 minutes, some California consumers have opted to use gasoline-powered cars, thus leaving their electric cars stagnant.

WEG and EDP want to guarantee charging stations for Renault electric cars in Brazil

Together with WEG and EDP, Renault brings to the Brazilian market a new model of electric cars known as Zoe, Renault's 100% electric vehicle. For the debut of the electric car in Brazil, the French automaker has the help of WEG and EDP to provide charging stations, considering that, in Brazil, there are few charging points for electric cars.

WEG stations have three models and each one has a specific time for charging the batteries. In the case of the Renault model, the time varies from one to three hours, depending on the type of season.

According to the superintendent director of WEG Automação, Mandred Peter Johann, the partnership will help WEG to demonstrate its efficient, intelligent and sustainable solutions for the electric car segment. EDP, on the other hand, intends to install 30 charging points by the end of 2022, in the state of São Paulo, and already has 50 stations of its own.

According to the vice-president of customers at EDP in Brazil, Carlos Andrade, the electric car sector is an important part of the energy change that the company aims to lead. Therefore, the company seeks to approach the main players, in order to help the growth of this market.
