According to the state-owned company, the procedure will be gradually implemented in other offshore units after assessing the increase of in-person staff.
This month of July, Petrobras started risk assessments to plan a gradual and safe return to in-person work in some units. In this phase, new preventive barriers are expected to be implemented according to the nature of each unit to enhance safety.

“In this scenario, we are starting a new pre-boarding procedure initially for the Búzios asset (P-74, P-75, P-76, and P-77). After the evaluation phase, the procedure will be expanded to other owned platforms after analysis for increasing the in-person staff”, stated Petrobras.
New Pre-Boarding Procedure Adopted by Petrobras for Increasing Offshore Staff
Starting 07/27, in addition to home monitoring pre-boarding, employees working on these platforms will undergo RT-PCR testing, which identifies the presence of genetic material from the virus, before boarding. For employees who do not reside in the boarding location, the last isolation period (up to 3 days) will take place in a hotel, to facilitate the test collection and await results. Employees who test positive will be directed to isolation with medical monitoring.
Whether in the hotel or at home, employees will be advised to maintain strict preventive measures against Covid-19, especially after test collection. Travel to the boarding point will also need to adhere to strict safety standards, ensuring that, after testing, the employee does not come into contact with possible sources of contagion.
With this change, the work schedule for employees on the Búzios asset will return to 14 x 21, and for employees residing outside of Rio de Janeiro, during the last 3 days of time off, they will be in a hotel to comply with the new health protocol. The hotel stay will be treated as a credit of 8 hours per day in the hours bank.
All unit employees (employees and staff from service providers) will undergo testing, except for those who have previously tested positive for RT-PCR and have already received medical clearance.
This strategy was designed as another barrier to prevent contagion, added to other already implemented measures (such as the use of masks, enhanced hygiene, and social distancing, for example). Thus, it will enable the gradual increase of workforce occupancy in the units, safely. Results will be monitored by health specialists. The new procedure will be gradually implemented in other confined units, based on market capacity for providing testing supplies and specialized services.
