Registration at INPI Draws Attention and Rekindles the Debate on the Return of Station Wagons with Focus on Space, Efficiency, and Electrification in Brazil.
The BYD has registered the Seal 06 DM I at the INPI, a move that puts a station wagon on the radar of the Brazilian market. The model was launched in July in China and reinforces the bet on larger and versatile cars.
The renewed interest in station wagons contrasts with the recent phase of leaner lines dominated by SUVs. Still, station wagons remain strong in Europe and are regaining ground in China with the expansion of electric vehicles.
The registration at the INPI does not confirm a launch in Brazil, but indicates protection of design and name in the country. The news comes close to expected updates for the Dolphin GS and the mid-size sedan King, which have already been seen here.

What Happened and Why It Draws Attention
The registration of the Seal 06 DM I at the INPI puts a hybrid station wagon at the center of discussions. The institute is the body responsible for industrial property registrations in Brazil, including designs and trademarks.
For years, station wagons were a common presence in the country, always linked to popular models. This scenario changed with consumer preference for taller vehicles with utility profile.
Even with the dominance of SUVs, a station wagon can attract those who prioritize space and functionality. The theme gains strength because BYD already has a solid presence with models from the Ocean line in Brazil.

Design and Dimensions of the Seal 06 DM I
The Seal 06 DM I follows BYD’s Ocean identity, with a clean front, sharp LED headlights, and an inverted trapezoidal grille. The overall look is similar to that seen in Seal and Dolphin.
The dimensions are large for the segment standard: 4,850 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,790 mm, focusing on interior space.
The trunk offers 670 liters, a volume 96 liters larger than that of the Song Plus. With the seats folded, the capacity can reach 1,535 liters, emphasizing the versatility proposition.
Equipment and Technology On Board

The equipment package draws attention for the level of items offered in China. The digital dashboard is 8.8 inches, while the multimedia center can be 12.8 or 15.6 inches in the top versions.
There are versions with six airbags or seven, depending on the configuration. LED headlights and 17 or 18 inch wheels complete the set.
The front seats can be heated and ventilated, enhancing comfort for daily use. Also available is the offer of cruise control with advanced assistance, focusing on a more relaxed driving experience on the road.
Engine, Hybrid System, and Performance Numbers
In mechanics, the station wagon uses the fifth-generation hybrid system DM i. The combination involves a 1.5 liter gasoline engine with 101 hp and an electric motor that can reach 218 hp, varying by version.
The reported maximum torque is 32.2 kgfm, also depending on the configuration. The setup is similar to that already seen in the King sold in Brazil, maintaining the efficiency proposal with electrification.
The proposal here is to cater to those who want long autonomy without relying solely on recharging. The union of gasoline engine and electric part seeks to balance performance and consumption.

Batteries, Autonomy, and Declared Consumption
The Seal 06 DM I offers two options for lithium iron phosphate battery, known as LFP. One of them has 18.7 kWh and electric autonomy of up to 150 km in the CLTC cycle.
With a full tank of 65 liters and a fully charged battery, the combined autonomy can reach 2,000 km. This number is one of the main attractions of the model for long-distance use.
The reported consumption varies from 31.7 km/l to 23.5 km/l, depending on the type of use. The proposal combines extensive travel with low expenditure while still maintaining an electric mode for daily routes.
What May Happen Moving Forward
The registration at the INPI does not guarantee sales in Brazil but keeps the possibility of future moves open. The brand has already shown interest in exporting the Seal 06 DM I to other markets.
If the station wagon were to arrive, the main appeal would be space and autonomy with electrification. The trunk’s 670 liters and the promise of up to 2,000 km combined could speak directly to families and those who travel frequently.
The Brazilian market today is heavily oriented towards SUVs, but there are consumers looking for practical alternatives. A hybrid station wagon with great range could become an option for those wanting to escape the norm without compromising utility.
The BYD has registered the Seal 06 DM I at the INPI and placed a hybrid station wagon back on Brazil’s radar. The model draws attention for its spacious package and autonomy figures, particularly for the 2,000 km combined.
Even without confirmation of a launch, the registration strengthens the view that the brand is considering paths beyond SUVs. If the segment continues to heat up, an electrified station wagon could gain traction as a rational choice for those prioritizing trunk space and efficiency.
