The Petrobras Project Enables the Flow and Processing of 21 Million m³/d of Natural Gas
Those who were waiting to see the Gaslub Hub (formerly Comperj) processing natural gas from the pre-salt will have to wait another two years. Petrobras announced that it expects to start gas processing operations at the facility only in 2024.
Stay Updated on the Reasons for the Operations Delay
As previously announced, Petrobras terminated the contract with the Kerui-Método consortium in July, which was responsible for the construction of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) at Gaslub. As a result, Petrobras had to postpone the project’s operational start, which was initially set for 2022.
Petrobras has already begun hiring the company that will take over the construction of the UPGN, as reported by Petronotícias. Regarding civil construction, the future chosen company will be responsible for the supply of materials and the execution of all remaining Civil Construction, Assembly, and Architecture services necessary for the implementation and proper functioning of the Industrial Unit, including, but not limited to: Metal structures; Architecture; Building installations; Hydraulic, sanitary, and stormwater installations; Paving and road construction; among others.

Learn About Petrobras
Petrobras is a Brazilian state-owned company responsible for the exploration, production, refining, transportation, and marketing of oil and natural gas, with over 60% of the company’s production currently coming from the pre-salt layer. It is also involved in the energy sector, operating in thermoelectric power generation and through renewable sources, as well as in the gas-chemical and biofuels segments.
The company was founded in 1953, during Getúlio Vargas’s second government, starting its activities in 1954. The company’s headquarters is located in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Additionally, Petrobras also operates in research and technological development focused mainly on oil exploration. Thus, the company stands out internationally in the exploration of oil in deep and ultra-deep waters.
Importance to Brazil
Petrobras’s importance to Brazil is immense, both for the economy and for the activities carried out by the company in various other sectors. Data from 2014 shows that Petrobras’s activities were primarily responsible for the oil and gas sector representing a share of 13% of the country’s GDP.
Petrobras is responsible for generating numerous jobs directly at its facilities and activities, and indirectly in productive sectors or companies that depend, in some way, on the production of oil and fuel. Moreover, part of the revenues generated by production and exploration returns as royalties to the Union, states, and municipalities.
Due to the significant geopolitical value of oil and natural gas, the very production of these products places Brazil in a privileged and at the same time strategic position in the global scenario.
