The Petrobras project enables the flow and processing of 21 million m³/d of natural gas
Those who were waiting to see the Polo Gaslub (formerly Comperj) processing pre-salt natural gas will have to wait another two years. A Petrobras informed that it expects to start gas processing operations at the venture only in 2024.
Stay on top of the reasons for the postponement of operations
As already announced, in July Petrobrás terminated the contract with the Kerui-Método consortium, which was responsible for the work on Gaslub's Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN). Due to this, Petrobras had to postpone the start of the project's operation, which was previously scheduled for 2022.
Petrobras has already started hiring the company that will take over the UPGN works, as shown by Petronotícias. Regarding civil construction, the future chosen company will be responsible for supplying materials and carrying out all remaining Civil Construction, Assembly and Architecture services necessary for the implementation and perfect functioning of the Industrial Unit, including, but not limited to: Structures metallic; Architecture; Building installations; Hydraulic, sanitary and rainwater installations; Paving and street layout; between others.

Get to know Petrobras
Petrobras is a Brazilian state-owned company responsible for exploring, producing, refining, transporting and marketing oil and natural gas, with more than 60% of the company's production currently coming from the pre-salt layer. It is also present in the energy sector, acting in the generation of thermoelectric energy and through renewable sources, as well as in the gas-chemical and biofuels segment.
The company was founded in 1953, during the second government of Getúlio Vargas, starting its activities in 1954. The company's headquarters are located in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
In addition, Petrobras also operates in the research and technological development sector, mainly focused on oil exploration. In this way, the company stands out internationally in oil exploration in deep and ultra-deep waters.
Importance for Brazil
The importance of Petrobras for Brazil is immense, both for the economy and for the activities carried out by the company in several other sectors. Data from 2014 show that Petrobras' activities were mainly responsible for the oil and gas sector representing a share of 13% of the country's GDP.
Petrobras is responsible for generating numerous jobs directly in its facilities and activities, and indirectly in productive sectors or companies that depend, in some way, on the production of oil and fuel. In addition, part of the values generated by production and exploration return in the form of royalties to the Union, states and municipalities.
Due to the great geopolitical value of oil and natural gas, the very production of these products places Brazil in a privileged and at the same time strategic position on the world stage.
