Petrobras Informs That the ROV Fleet Will Be Dedicated to Interventions, Inspections, and Subsea Maintenance in Pre/Post-Salt

The ROVs are essential for offshore operations in oil extraction activities and there was some concern in the market regarding the renewal of the fleet and companies that would secure the next batch of contracts for the operation of these robots in both pre-salt and post-salt. The good news is that Petrobras has signed with DOF and will maintain the current fleet stabilized with some increments.

DOF, a company from Norway, announced early in January that it managed to sign with the state-owned company and will be responsible for part of the supply of remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) throughout the national territory where there are jobs in the offshore, oil, and gas chain. Among all the agreements submitted in the contract, two of them foresee the installation of ROVs in the Skandi Angra and Paraty, which are anchor handling and support vessels (AHTS), and they are under the responsibility of Norskan, which is also a subsidiary. The contracts start this year, 2018, with an expiration date until November 2020.

Currently, there will be about 75 robots operating in the country and it seems that the fleet will not grow much until the end of the contract. What is known is that new ROV support vessels (RSVs) will emerge as 2018 progresses, around 5 or 7 of them. The subsea area of Petrobras uses ROVs in intervention, inspection, and subsea maintenance operations on equipment, rigid and flexible pipelines, support for anchoring operations, and in geodetic activities.
