The Price Adjustment of Aviation Kerosene Made by Petrobras Was 10.4% and Will Take Effect from September 1st for Distributors
On the next September 1st, Petrobras will adjust the prices of Aviation Kerosene (QAV) with a decrease of 10.4% in the selling prices for distributors. This will be the second consecutive reduction in kerosene prices, which had already suffered a -2.6% adjustment at the beginning of August.
According to the practice that has been in place for the last 20 years, price adjustments for kerosene are monthly and defined through a contractual formula negotiated with the distributors. The selling prices of Petrobras’ kerosene for the distribution companies aim to balance with the international market and follow the variations in the value of kerosene and the exchange rate, both up and down, with adjustments applied on a monthly basis, mitigating the daily volatility of international quotations and exchange rates.
Petrobras sells the kerosene developed in its refineries or imported only to distributors. The distributors, in turn, transport and sell the kerosene to airline companies and other end customers at airports, or to other resellers. The distributors and resellers are responsible for the installations at the airports and for the refueling services of the aircraft’s kerosene.

After Petrobras Price Reductions, Cities in Santa Catarina (SC) Have Gasoline Below R$ 5, but Diesel is Still Expensive
Some cities located on the coast of Santa Catarina (SC) already have the price of gasoline below R$ 5, ranging between R$ 4.90 to R$ 4.99, one of them being Penha, which can be found northward, towards Paraná (PR). Meanwhile, cities located in the Central East have varied gasoline prices, around R$ 5.20 per liter.
The price decrease occurred after the announcement that Petrobras would be implementing a new adjustment in August for “internal price control.” Diesel, however, remains expensive, affecting mainly the truck drivers who need to refuel their trucks. The price per liter also varies depending on the region being visited. For example, in Brusque, Santa Catarina (SC), the price of diesel is around R$ 7.40 per liter.
The Petrobras adjustment was nearly 5% and directly impacted the prices charged by gas stations to residents of Santa Catarina (SC), decreasing from R$ 3.71 to R$ 3.53 (R$ 0.18 less per liter).
Some analysts argue that this price drop is due to the elections, which are expected to take place in October this year, featuring a fierce competition between right and left parties, including former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who will compete with the current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
According to Petrobras, the adjustment happened only internally and at a national scale, as they are trying not to pass on the price of gasoline and diesel to the final consumer. The increase, according to the state-owned company, observed over the last two years, occurred due to the exponential rise in oil barrel prices, exacerbated by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
