Currently, Petrobras provides transportation from Santos to the Fluminense airfield and vice versa for the oil workers, but this will end, and the group will be required to bear these travel expenses out of their own pockets.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Petrobras will continue to provide transportation, as well as pre-embarkation accommodation for offshore workers.
According to Fábio Mello, coordinator of the Press Department of the Union of Oil Workers of the Paulista Coast (Sindipetro-LP), the effects of this measure taken by Petrobras go beyond, as there will no longer be any reason for them to maintain all support activities for these operators in the Valongo administrative building in Santos.
“We Could Be Talking About The Closure Of Another 600 To 1,000 Jobs. This Does Not Take Into Account The Collapse That It Will Cause In The Region Due To Restaurants And Other Businesses Created Around The Edisa (administrative building of Petrobras, in Valongo), Where About 2,500 People Currently Work,” Said Mello.
The union leader also stated that in 2019, there was a transfer of part of the professionals related to exploration and production from Santos to Rio de Janeiro, including geologists and engineers. Initially, the company intended to build three towers in Valongo, but only one was constructed.
