Oil company expressed interest in investing in renewables during Petrobras Day

Petrobras is evaluating investing in wind and solar energy, in addition to other sectors linked to renewable energies. The possibility was made public during Petrobras Day, last Tuesday (30), in a speech by the company's future Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability, Rafael Chaves Santos.

The executive also stated that the oil company has also been considering investing in the hydrogen and nuclear energy sectors. “Right now, we are studying which could be the best alternatives”, declared Rafael, who will take office as of December 16th.

The future director's statement calmed investors. Despite the fact that Petrobras' PE 2022-2026 was well received by the market, analysts were concerned about the fact that Petrobras did not intend to invest in the wind and solar energy segments.

On investments in renewable energy

Investment in renewable energies, such as solar and wind, are of great ecological advantage. Because they are clean and inexhaustible ways of generating energy, in addition to not polluting the environment because they do not emit CO², this is a segment with growing investments and of great importance to corroborate with sustainability. Therefore, it is of great value that large companies like Petrobras consider investing in this.

Wind energy uses the force of the wind to generate electricity, while solar energy uses the light or heat radiated by the Sun for the same purpose.

Refining advertising campaigns

Regarding the divestment of Refining, Petrobras intends to relaunch, in 2022, the teasers of the Alberto Pasqualini (Refap) refineries, in Rio Grande do Sul, and Presidente Getúlio Vargas (Repar), in Paraná. The directors of Finance and Investor Relations, Rodrigo Araujo Alves, and Refining & Natural Gas, Rodrigo Costa Lima e Silva, revealed the plan.

However, the release of new teasers depends on the adjustment of a new schedule and agreements with the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).

In addition, Petrobras released, at the end of November, the Strategic Plan 2022-2026, which foresees investments of US$ 68 billion, with the largest part earmarked for the E&P segment. The second largest investment will be in the Refining area.
