It Is Necessary To Study
To become a drone pilot, the interested party needs to study. This is because, in the spraying area, for example, the pilot must have completed the Remote Agricultural Application Course (CAAR).
In this course, the student will learn to configure drones and handle pesticides. On the other hand, those professionals responsible for mapping usually have a degree in Agronomy, Geology, or Civil and Forestry Engineering.
Who Hires Typically Hires The Professional
Today, pilots are hired by farms, sugar mills, agricultural machinery companies, and pesticide application companies. At the beginning of the year, the demand tends to be high, as these companies are in full swing due to the approaching harvest season.
What Is The Contract of A Drone Pilot Like
The drone pilot can be self-employed or an employee. According to reports, there are currently companies that prefer to hire pilots on an indefinite basis, incorporating them into their staff. On the other hand, there are those that choose to hire temporary workers or service providers.
The Salary Can Vary
The salary of R$ 10 thousand is the highest level in the profession. However, as the role of drone pilot is new, the compensation can vary, averaging between R$ 2 thousand and R$ 10 thousand.
In an interview with the portal “G1”, Josué Andreas Vieira, an agent of Regional Development of The National Union of Agricultural Aviation Companies (Sindag) reported that positions paying up to R$ 10 thousand are considered “premium.”
This is because, according to him, they require more training from the pilots. However, the specialist emphasizes that the problem is that most people do not have sufficient training to reach those higher-salary positions. “Indeed, there is a shortage of pilots in the market,” he reveals.
Where The Demand for Pilots Is
According to the Sindag agent, currently, the highest demand in the Brazilian market is in the spraying area, a sector that requires the professional to understand agronomy and, especially, the care in using and handling pesticides.
However, also according to the aforementioned portal, pilot João Eder Naimeg, who works in the mining municipality of Patrocínio, Minas Gerais, known for its coffee plantations, explains that there are exceptions.
“In our region, mapping is growing more than spraying,” he says, explaining that this is because the region is not very flat. “The producer plants, waits for the rain, and when it comes, it washes everything away,” he details. According to him, mapping can generate, for example, images and data capable of preventing these disasters by simulating factors such as rainfall levels and terrain altitude.
