After a Long Period of Instability in Cargo Transport Across the Global Market, the Port of Santos Now Has a Good Export Flow Due to Logistics Efficiency and a Stable Container Wait, According to the Project44 Platform.
The international logistics platform focused on cargo movement, Project44, highlighted this Friday, (06/17), the relevance of the Port of Santos, located in the state of São Paulo, in the efficiency of export operations and in stabilizing the container wait time in 2022. All these factors contribute to the complex continuing to be one of the most relevant in the entire global cargo transport scenario.
Port of Santos Continues with Its National Leadership in Container Operations and Maintains Good Export Logistics, According to Project44 Data
Over the past 2 years, the international port sector has suffered from a crisis of instability regarding container wait times and product exports. This is because the Covid-19 pandemic severely disrupted international port logistics.
But now, stability is returning to the complexes, and the Port of Santos, located in the state of São Paulo, has excellent logistics efficiency and a stable container wait time.

A hidden metal piece in the bow redesigns the water flow, reduces drag, and can save over 10,000 tons of fuel per year; this invisible solution allows giant ships to cut millions in costs without changing engines or routes.

The world’s first container ship powered by renewable ammonia promises to avoid around 11,000 tons of CO₂ per year. The vessel, scheduled to operate in 2026, will connect Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands on one of the shortest and most strategic routes in Europe.
The average container wait time measures a port’s efficiency, and the shorter it is, the better the export logistics at the complex. Thus, the research platform related to cargo movement, Project44, highlights that the Port of Santos maintains its quality in this index and continues to be one of the most important ports in the country, through which the majority of food exports, such as coffee, white sugar (crystal), and meats, are shipped.
Accordingly, based on data from the survey conducted by Project44 concerning global export logistics, the length of stay for these cargo ‘packagings’ for export remained stable at five days in 2022.
This is an excellent figure for the Port of Santos since ships did not experience fluctuations in wait times throughout 2022, and for the coming months, the expectation of the platform is that the complex maintains its logistics quality.
Performance of the Complex in Import Container Wait Time is Even Better and Ensures More Efficient Logistics, According to Project44
Although the export logistics of products at the Port of Santos are of high relevance in the national port scenario, the big highlight for 2022 is the wait time for import containers.
This is because, according to data collected by Project 44, the wait time averaged around 2 days throughout the year, ensuring much more speed and efficiency in the entry of goods into the national territory.
Thus, Project44 commented on the main factors that affect this logistics and the reasons that led to the better results in product imports, stating that “Ports import goods different from those they export, and these products go to different locations. The vessels leaving for imports do not necessarily pick up exports as well. Therefore, the discrepancy between the stay times of import and export containers is normal.”
The Port of Santos is the largest port complex in Latin America and has been increasingly demonstrating the reasons why it earned this title, providing clients with the best operational and logistical quality and moving essential capital for the São Paulo region and Brazil daily.
