Portugal Will Have Job Fair for Tourism Professionals. The Country Has About 45 Thousand Open Positions and Is Seeking Candidates.
Portugal is one of the most profitable sectors in the country and also one of the ones that mostly lacks professionals. Tourism in Portugal has strengthened each year, and in the first five months of 2023, the number of people visiting the country has increased, making it the best year ever in terms of demand. With the tourism market thriving, job vacancies are increasing, and according to the Hotel Association of Portugal (AHP), there are still 45 thousand workers needed in the sector.
Open Positions in Portugal
In search of solutions and professionals to fill tourism vacancies in Braga, the municipality will hold a job fair dedicated to the tourism sector. The 1st Job Fair for Tourism Professionals in Braga will take place on September 22, starting at 2 PM at the Municipal Market of the city, in the Sonae Sierra space.
The initiative resulted from a partnership established between the Foundation Center for Foreign Trade Studies (FUNCEX EUROPE), the Association of Tourism Professionals of Minho (APROTURM), the Training Academy (SABFORMA), and SONAE SIERRA, with the high sponsorship of the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP – Braga) and Braga City Council.

Interviews Between Employers and Tourism Professionals
According to the organizers, one of the objectives is to conduct interviews between employers and tourism professionals. This could already result in immediate hires to fill the vacancies. Thus, there will be a greater alignment between supply and demand, creating new jobs.
The fair also aims to attract professionals from other countries residing in the Braga area. “We know that many immigrants are looking for work and tourism needs this workforce. Sometimes they are qualified professionals who in some cases already have experience in the field,” explains Bruno Gutman, Northern Director of Funcex Europe, one of the promoting entities of the event.
Funcex aims to support Brazil’s foreign trade, whether through the internationalization of companies, direct investments, or by contributing through the direction of qualified Brazilian labor. Thus, Funcex acts as a local economic agent and contributes to the development of the regions and countries where it operates.
Brazilian Community
The Brazilian community is the nationality that represents the largest number of foreigners in the municipality, estimated at around 200 thousand inhabitants, with 15 thousand being Brazilian.
“The fair is for everyone interested in the job openings, both Portuguese and foreigners; however, we know that there is a large number of Brazilian immigrants who have previously worked in the tourism sector in Brazil or even in Portugal and are looking for job opportunities,” we are waiting for these candidates for the positions,” reveals the director.
In 2025, Braga will be the Portuguese City of Culture and will receive support of two million euros to attract visitors, which is expected to increase the number of open positions in the sector. Regarding the vacancies offered at the fair, they will mainly include jobs in accommodation, catering, and even tourism entertainment.
