Portugal will have a Job Fair for Tourism professionals. The country has around 45 thousand open positions and is looking for candidates.
Portugal is one of the most profitable sectors in the country and also one of the most lacking professionals. Tourism in Portugal has strengthened every year and in the first five months of 2023, the number of people visiting the country grew, making it the best year ever in terms of demand. With the tourist market booming, job vacancies increase, and according to the Portugal Hospitality Association (AHP), there are still 45 thousand workers missing from the sector.
Open vacancies in Portugal
In search of solutions and PROFESSIONALS To fill tourism vacancies in Braga, the municipality will host a job fair dedicated to the tourism sector. A 1st Job Fair for Tourism Professionals in Braga will be held on September 22nd, starting at 14pm at the city's Municipal Market, in the Sonae Sierra space.
The initiative resulted from the partnership established between the Foundation Center for Foreign Trade Studies (FUNCEX EUROPA), the Minho Tourism Professionals Association (APROTURM), the Training Academy (SABFORMA), and the SONAE SIERRA, with the high sponsorship of the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP – Braga) to Braga City Council.

Interviews between employers and tourism professionals
According to the organizers, the objectives include conducting interviews between employers and tourism professionals. This could result in immediate hiring to fill vacancies. This will bring supply and demand closer together, creating new jobs.
The Fair also aims to attract professionals from other countries who are residing in the Braga area. “We know that many immigrants are looking for work and Tourism needs this workforce. Sometimes they are qualified professionals who, in some cases, already have experience in the area”, he explains. Bruno Gutman, Northern director of Funcex Europa, one of the entities promoting the event.
One of Funcex's objectives is to support Brazil's foreign trade, whether through the internationalization of companies, direct investments or through contributions through the targeting of qualified Brazilian labor. With this, Funcex acts as a local economic agent and contributes to the development of the regions and countries in which it operates.
Brazilian community
The Brazilian community is the nationality that represents the largest number of foreigners in the municipality, it is estimated that of the approximately 200 thousand inhabitants, 15 thousand are Brazilians.
“The fair is for everyone who is interested in vacancies, Portuguese and foreigners, however we know that there are a large number of Brazilian immigrants who have already worked in the tourism sector in Brazil, or even in Portugal and who are looking for job opportunities” , we are waiting for these candidates for vacancies”, reveals the director.
In 2025 Braga will be the Portuguese City of Culture and will have the support of two million euros to attract visitors, which foresees an increase in the level of vacancies open for the sector. Regarding the vacancies offered at the fair, there will be, above all, jobs for the accommodation, catering and even tourist entertainment sector.

Cook, waiter, tourism technician, waiter, travel consultant, hotel receptionist, baggage handler, housekeeping, service employee cleaning in a Rural Tourism unit, among others.
According to António Antas Teles, president of APROTURM, there is no need for proven experience for vacancies.
“People who are interested in filling vacancies do not need to prove experience, as companies and entities themselves usually offer training and internships to train new professionals”, he explains.
