The Municipality of Maringá (PR) is investing BRL 80 million to build two solar plants that will help reduce the electricity bill. More than R$ 2 million will be reduced in just one month.

A City Hall of Maringá, in the north of the state of Paraná, announced on Tuesday (5) that it will build two solar power plants to guarantee the operation of public buildings in order to save on the electricity bill. The investment planned by the Municipality of Maringá (PR) for the construction of solar plants is up to R$ 80 million. The municipality published in the Official Gazette the intention of hiring a company to carry out the works.

Resources for solar plants will come from BRDE

A large part of the resources will come from the Regional Development Bank of the Extreme South (BRDE). The expectation is that the two solar plants will be in operation by the end of next year. According to the city hall of Maringá (PR), when the plants are fully ready, the city should save about R$ 2 million per month in electricity bill.

In addition, the management of the municipality claims that it will revitalize public lighting with the installation of LED lamps. The Água e Terra Institute (IAT) and Copel are analyzing a request from the city hall for the development of one of the solar plants, which should be built in the Felizardo Meneguetti Industrial Park.

It is estimated that in less than three and a half years, the investment by the Municipality of Maringá (PR) will be paid off. Entities claim that the resources used can be turned to other services in favor of the community. The agency also highlighted that the solar plants, together, will have an installed capacity of 5 MW, with 11,3 panels each.

First solar plant will have almost 110 m² and more than 10 solar panels

The city hall of Maringá (PR), through a partnership with Projeto Felicity, won the technical project for the construction of the first project, which will have almost 110 thousand m², in the Felizardo Meneguetti Industrial Park.

The second, which is in the design phase, should be installed in the Iguatemi district region. The expectation is that construction of the first unit will begin at the end of this year and that in 2023 both projects will be operational and generating savings on the electricity bill.

In May, an agreement was signed with BRDE, which provides for a budget of R$ 30 million for sustainable initiatives, including this one. According to the Secretary of the Government, Hércules Kotsifas, with the partnership, the city is taking the lead in search of innovative and sustainable solutions, ready for the challenges that may come.

similar projects

The project for the solar plants in the city of Maringá (PR) is similar to that of other public bodies, such as the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR), which has a solar plant in Paranavaí, in northwest Paraná.

The Court of Justice of Paraná also has a project for the installation of a solar energy plant that will be located in Campo Mourão. Both in the case of the TJ and in the case of the TR, the objective is to reduce the electricity bill and save resources that return in the payment of electricity tariffs for court buildings.

In Ponta Grossa, the city hall has a biogas plant, which generates energy through organic materials collected in garbage collection. Over there, the municipal management calculates savings of R$ 250 on the energy bill with the use of the plant itself.
