As Part Of Petrobras’ Divestment Plan, The Sale Of Refineries May Result In Increased Fuel Prices. Oil Workers Are On Strike In Several States
Should the sales of Petrobras’ refineries be finalized, gasoline and diesel prices may rise even more, despite consecutive surges in fuel prices. According to the oil workers, who are on strike in the states of Bahia, Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, and São Paulo, the sale of the refining units, which are part of the state-owned company’s divestment plan, could have many impacts on society.
Petrobras And The Consecutive Increases In Fuel Prices
With the increase in the dollar, gasoline and diesel have become more expensive at Petrobras’ refineries, leading to new adjustments that directly impact consumers’ wallets. This is the sixth increase this year and the second one just this March made by the state-owned company, with adjustments of 8.8% for gasoline and 5.5% for diesel.
To raise awareness and attract popular support, oil workers have been promoting the sale of fuels at reasonable prices. In recent weeks, at various gas stations across the country, app drivers were able to purchase gasoline for R$ 3.50 per liter. They also sold diesel and cooking gas at promotional prices. They believe that since Petrobras controls all stages of production, from exploration to refining, it is unfair to tie price fluctuations to the international market.
