Accident Involving Car Carrier Truck and New Hilux Generates Million-Dollar Losses and Highlights Vehicle Transport Safety in Brazil.

Seven units of the Toyota Hilux 0 km, each valued at over R$ 200 thousand, were involved in a serious accident that occurred on the morning of July 22, 2025, over the new Guaíba bridge in Porto Alegre (RS).

According to information gathered by G1, the car carrier truck transporting the pickups overturned, resulting in an estimated loss of over R$ 1.4 million.

During the incident, one of the pickups fell from approximately 20 meters high, drawing attention to the challenges and risks of road transport for high-value vehicles.

The Hilux involved, imported from the Toyota factory in Zárate, Argentina, were being transported from the brand’s distribution center in Guaíba to the Tegma carrier yard in Gravataí.

From there, the vehicles would proceed to different regions of Brazil.

The accident, recorded around 10 a.m., occurred on one of the access ramps to the Freeway, at km 95.

The location had already reported another truck rollover involving a wood chip load in June 2025.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the maximum speed allowed in the area is 50 km/h.

The force of the impact dislodged one of the Hilux, which fell from the bridge and hit Rua Voluntários da Pátria.

The truck driver sustained only minor injuries, was assisted at the scene, and is doing well.

The removal of the vehicle required two large tow trucks and mobilized teams from the CCR ViaSul concessionaire, causing a partial traffic blockage until the roadway was cleared.

The causes of the accident are still under investigation.

As informed by the PRF-RS substitute Communication Chief, Laudson Viegas, the truck’s tachograph disk will be analyzed to determine if there was speeding or other failures.

“The causes of the accident are still being investigated. The tachograph disk will be checked to see if there was actually speeding, but this serves as an alert, especially in tighter curves, to exercise extra caution to avoid accidents,” Viegas explained to G1.

In an official statement, the carrier Tegma declared that the transportation service was outsourced and that the causes of the incident will be analyzed in conjunction with the competent authorities.

Toyota Hilux 0 km: Robustness, Technology, and Market Value

The Toyota Hilux 0 km involved in the accident is recognized as a benchmark in robustness, performance, and technology in the medium pickup segment.

The transported models featured a 2.8 turbo diesel engine with 204 horsepower, full-LED headlights, as well as advanced comfort and safety features.

Market data confirms the Hilux’s prominence: in 2024 alone, the model led national sales in its segment, with around 50 thousand units sold, surpassing direct competitors such as Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S10, and Mitsubishi Triton.

In Brazil, the price list for the new Hilux starts at R$ 210 thousand for the entry-level versions and can exceed R$ 330 thousand for the more sophisticated configurations, according to official information from Toyota in July 2025.

The high added value, combined with its reputation for reliability and constant innovation, justifies the model’s choice by carriers and consumers seeking performance and durability.

Technological Update and New Generation of Hilux

Toyota is preparing the arrival of the new generation of the Hilux in the country.

The model, spotted in testing, will initially launch in Asia in 2025, with an expected arrival in the Brazilian market in 2026.

Among the main innovations, the inclusion of the mild hybrid version (MHEV) stands out, already marketed in markets such as Europe.

This technology combines the traditional 2.8 turbo diesel engine with a 16-horsepower auxiliary electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing pollutant emissions.

In addition to the innovative engine, the new Hilux will feature updated design — redesigned front and rear, new style wheels, robust fenders, renewed steps, and a more sophisticated interior, with an advanced multimedia system and higher-quality finishing materials.

These changes reinforce the model’s competitiveness against global rivals and consolidate the leadership of the Toyota Hilux medium pickup in Brazil and worldwide.
