The presentation of the data will be led by biologist Amanda Borges, a consultant in Petrobras’s Social Responsibility area. Also present will be veterinarian Gabriela Moreira, general coordinator of the Guapiaçu project, sponsored by Petrobras, and biologist Claudio Pádua, rector of the Superior School of Environmental Conservation and Sustainability and vice president of the Institute of Ecological Research.

The biologist will highlight the importance of Petrobras’s voluntary investments in initiatives aimed at promoting environmental education for the conservation and recovery of forests and natural areas with a focus on biodiversity protection, including carbon stock removal and maintenance.

Veterinarian Gabriela Moreira will emphasize the experience of the Guapiaçu project in environmental education with children and youth, as well as the recovery actions that enabled the conservation of 160 hectares of Atlantic Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

“One of the highlights is the mobilization of 9,700 people and the recovery or conservation of more than 100,000 hectares of areas in five biomes, with the production of more than 1.5 million seedlings in 2019,” says Petrobras in the report.

The panel “Science And Environmental Education – Vectors To Reduce The Threat To Brazilian Biomes,” is part of the theme “Brazil And The Ambitions Of Science, Technology And Innovation,”

The Ethos 360º Conference is in its 23rd edition, sponsored by Petrobras, and is becoming established as the largest event on policies and actions for sustainable development, attracting leaders and companies from all over Brazil and South America.

Petrobras Socio-Environmental Program

The Petrobras Socio-Environmental Program structures the company’s voluntary investments, defining thematic areas, objectives, and guidelines in multi-year planning, and had investments amounting to R$ 100 million in 2019.

In the Climate line, the consolidated result of 15 projects supported by the company accounted for the potential contribution of 850,000 tons of CO2 in the recovered or conserved areas, in addition to the associated social and environmental benefits distributed across five Brazilian biomes (Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, Caatinga, and Pampas).
