The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) has published Public Notice No. 14/PPGE/2024, opening selection for the Master’s and Doctorate courses in Education through the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE).

Take a 100% free online course at “NASA” of Brazil: The Brazilian Space Agency opens registrations for 29 courses with national slots, in areas such as rockets, satellites, and propulsion, immediate online access, and free certification in 2026.

Sebrae will pay R$ 6,500 to those who take this course and work with rural innovation: there are 834 open positions, scholarships of up to R$ 6,500, and contracts of up to 12 months in various cities.

MEC calls for a 100% online and free course in Neuroeducation with 2,461 limited spots, a workload of 200 hours, and a certificate at no cost.
In total, there are 115 free spots, distributed between general competition and affirmative action categories.
The start of classes is scheduled for the second semester of 2025 (Master’s) and the first semester of 2026 (Doctorate).
Research Lines
The PPGE/UFSC offers courses focusing on different aspects of education, distributed among six Research Lines:
- Education and Communication (ECO)
- Education and Childhood (EI)
- Sociology and History of Education (SHE)
- Subjects, Educational Processes, and Teaching (SUPED)
- Work, Education, and Politics (TEP)
- Philosophy of Education (FIL)
These lines cover fundamental themes for the training of researchers and professionals committed to innovation and improvement of Brazilian education.
In addition, students have access to interdisciplinary projects and national and international partnerships that expand their academic opportunities.
Spots and Categories
The public notice offers 63 spots for the Master’s and 52 for the Doctorate, with part designated for affirmative actions:
- 13 spots in the Master’s and 11 in the Doctorate for self-declared black, brown, indigenous, and quilombola candidates.
- 4 spots in the Master’s and 4 in the Doctorate for people with disabilities, refugees, and candidates in a situation of economic vulnerability.
- 2 spots in the Master’s and 2 in the Doctorate for transgender people.
If there are remaining spots in these categories, they will be redistributed for general competition, as provided in the public notice. This quota system reinforces UFSC’s commitment to inclusion and democratization of higher education.
Who Can Apply?
To compete for the spots, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Master’s: hold a bachelor’s degree recognized by the MEC.
- Doctorate: hold a Master’s degree recognized by CAPES.
- Candidates in the process of completing their course may participate, provided they present a completion declaration at the time of registration.
The process also includes spots reserved for historically and socially underrepresented groups, promoting a more inclusive selection.
Additionally, international students can apply as long as they fulfill the documentation and academic requirements established in the public notice.
How Will the Selection Process for the Master’s and Doctorate Be?
The selection will occur in two eliminatory stages:
- Analysis of the Research Project — Evaluation of theoretical-methodological consistency, clarity in problem delimitation, and project feasibility.
- Defense and Analysis of the Lattes Curriculum — Presentation of the project and descriptive memorial, in addition to analysis of the candidate’s academic trajectory.
To be approved, the candidate must achieve a minimum score of 6.0 for general competition and 5.0 for affirmative actions.
In addition to these criteria, it is advisable that candidates prepare in advance by studying the research lines and the work developed by the PPGE faculty.
