The French multinational Renault decided to extend for another 15 days the stoppage of production at the car factory in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná. At the moment, the 5 employees who were due to return next Thursday (12th) have been on collective vacation since July 29th and will be unable to work until August 27th. The automaker said the stoppage was due to a lack of semiconductor microchips. Employees at the light commercial unit were suspended this week and will return next Monday.

Known as the Ayrton Senna complex, the company's car factory in Paraná produces the entire range of the French multinational's brand, with the Kwid, Logan, Duster, Sandero, Duster Oroch, Master van and van and also the Captur models, and has the capacity to annual production of 220 to 320 thousand cars.

This is the second stoppage at Renault's Paraná plant in months. With the extension, the automaker could suffer a major impact on sales for next September.

In March, Renault had already announced the stoppage of the car factory in Paraná, which lasted for a few days, from March 29 to April 5. At the time, the company claimed that the stoppage at the factory was to contribute to social isolation due to the pandemic, and was also aligned with the Metallurgical Union of Curitiba.

Automotive companies paralyze their factories

At Volkswagen, employees of the two work shifts at the Taubaté (SP) unit went on collective vacation for 20 days, however a small part of them returned to operations last Monday, while another part will return from next week.

In São Bernardo do Campo, also in São Paulo, there are 1,5 employees who have been on vacation since July 19th and would return this Monday (09th), but Volkswagen postponed their return for another 20 days. A Fiat is another company that has suspended production production of a work shift at its factory in Betim (MG) for ten days starting this week.

At the General Motors plant in Gravataí (RS), which has been on a standstill since April, one of the shifts is scheduled to return to the 16th. In São Caetano do Sul (SP), production has been suspended since June and has forecast to return at the end of this month, in at least one shift.
