How Much It Costs to Renew the Driver’s License Online
The fees to renew an expired driver’s license vary by state, but generally include a renewal fee, medical exam, and, in some cases, psychological exam. On average, the total cost ranges between R$ 150 and R$ 250, depending on the category of the license.
The main novelty is the payment method: now, fees can be paid via PIX, credit card, or digital invoice, directly within the Detran app.
This eliminates bank lines and ensures the driver has an instant proof of payment.
Where It Is Possible to Use the Digital Driver’s License
States such as São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro already offer the digital driver’s license, valid nationwide. The document can be accessed in the Digital Traffic Wallet (CDT) app, and has the same validity as the printed version.
This means that, after completing the online process, the driver can already use the digital version of the license without having to wait for the printed version to be delivered by mail. For those who rely on their car daily, this change brings immediate relief.
