This desire is even more intense among those aged between 26 and 35, an age group in which 46% of respondents expressed this intention.
On the other hand, workers over 66 and under 18 are those who show the least interest in a professional change.
Motivations for professional change
The main reason given by interviewees for a career transition is the search for quality of life, mentioned by 42,7% of participants.
Furthermore, the prospect of a more solid career plan and a salary increase appear next among the main reasons.
Other relevant factors include the search for a healthier work environment and the search for new challenges.
Fabio Maeda, director of B2C sales, marketing and products at Catho, explains that “professionals seek to align their personal and job market aspirations with new opportunities”.
According to him, the age group between 26 and 35 years old is at a crucial moment in their career, where growth and professional satisfaction become priorities.
Obstacles to career transition
Despite the strong desire for change, many professionals face significant challenges in making this decision happen.
According to the survey, 35% of respondents point to the lack of qualifications as a major barrier, as the transition to a new area requires specific knowledge and skills.
Another relevant obstacle is financial insecurity, mentioned by 12% of professionals.
Career transitions can involve periods without a fixed income or even investments in education and qualifications, which leads many to hesitate before making a definitive decision.
Impact of the heated labor market
Currently, Brazil has one of the lowest unemployment rates since 2012, reaching 6,6%, according to the most recent data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
This positive scenario could be a driving factor for more professionals to consider changing areas, as a buoyant market offers more opportunities for relocation.
Furthermore, a survey conducted by LinkedIn indicates that 68% of Generation Z workers (born between 1996 and 2012) plan to look for a new job in 2025.
For this group, the main motivations are remuneration, work-life balance and the lack of growth opportunities in the companies where they are currently employed.
As the study highlights, “the younger they are, the more dissatisfied they are”, which reinforces the trend of greater turnover among this generation.
Tips for a Successful Career Change
Experts recommend that professionals interested in changing careers conduct in-depth research into their new area of interest.
Analyzing the daily responsibilities of the profession and understanding market requirements can help in decision making.
Vinicius Walsh, a career transition specialist, suggests: “Do a lot of research on the area of interest. Find out what the daily responsibilities of the profession are.
LinkedIn is a great tool. Look for vacancies in your area of interest, analyze the specific requirements and responsibilities.”
Furthermore, investing in qualifications and networking are fundamental strategies to facilitate the transition and increase the chances of success in the new career.
Online courses, workshops and industry events can provide valuable knowledge and connections for those seeking a new opportunity.
