Great news for shipbuilding in Brazil! The EBR Shipyard, in RS, was announced by Petrobras as pre-qualified for the construction of FPSO's
The week ends with yet another great news for shipbuilding in Brazil! The president of Petrobras, Roberto Castello Branco, declared that phase 2 of the Búzios field will require platforms with greater production capacity (FPSO). Ecovix shipyard will generate around 5 jobs in the construction of the POLAR ship for the Brazilian Navy

The FPSO's used in the first phase of the asset had a capacity to process 150.000 barrels/day of oil and now FPSO's of 225.000 barrels/day will be required.
The main reason is the volume of reserves in the development plan for phase 2 of the Búzios oil field, which is much larger than that of phase 1. The new phase is expected to start in 2024 according to the president of Petrobras
At the same time, Petrobras is already searching the market for qualified EPC companies to participate in its tenders for the supply of FPSO's.
The tender does not yet have a scheduled date, but is already being eagerly awaited by the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) market.
The EBR shipyard, in São José do Norte, in the south of the country, has already been announced by Petrobras as pre-qualified, according to the new state law that requires this phase in new tenders.
According to the commercial manager of the EBR shipyard, Luiz Felipe Camargo, “This pre-qualification is very important for the EBR, because it proves our ability to satisfactorily deliver complete projects, based on our recent history. It also proves our financial capacity to compete with large companies in the international market, in addition to attesting to Petrobras' satisfaction with our work, for which we were awarded for the anticipation of oil for FPSO P-74”.
Prequalification Petrobras
To pre-qualify a company, Petrobras requires, in addition to good financial health, proof of delivery, in the last 10 years, of an FPSO with a minimum production capacity of 100 barrels of oil per day and treatment of 2 million m³ of gas per day.
The pre-qualification achieved by the shipyard is valid for 1 year and it is expected that the tender that will mark the return of Petrobras to contracting its own units will take place before the expiration of this period.
The EBR shipyard stood out in the construction of the FPSO P-74 and today manufactures modules for Modec. The company is part of group Toyo Engineering, well known in the Epcist market.
