Saipem Signs Agreement With Petrobras for Development of Autonomous Underwater Drones in Brazil
The Italian company Saipem announced today (28) the achievement of two new major contracts in the area of underwater robotics and offshore engineering. One of these contracts was signed with Petrobras, aiming at the development and testing of autonomous underwater drones, using Saipem’s fleet of underwater drones, in conjunction with the Flatfish AUV autonomous underwater vehicle.
The agreement also provides for the qualification of autonomous drone-based services, paving the way for future offshore inspection contracts in Brazil. This contract represents a significant milestone in Saipem’s innovative underwater robotics program, enabling the global application of underwater drones in offshore projects throughout the entire value chain.
Saipem Signs Contract With Saudi Aramco for Offshore Engineering Activities in the Marjan Field, Saudi Arabia
In addition to the contract with Petrobras, Saipem also entered into an agreement with Saudi Aramco, one of the largest energy companies in the world, for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) activities in the Marjan field, on the coast of Saudi Arabia.

The German ship Bottsand splits its hull in two halves in the middle of the ocean to swallow spilled oil on the surface, separating the oil from the water inside a 790 cubic meter tank and then closing again. It is the only ship in the world factory-designed to split in half as part of normal operations, and the crew of six people who operate everything is civilian.

With almost 70 meters in width at the stern and a shape resembling a “giant slice of cheese,” the Ramform Titan tows up to 24 seismic cables to sweep the ocean floor in 3D and reveal oil reserves hidden beneath kilometers of sediment.

With a length of 225 meters and a capacity of 76 thousand tons, this ship “sinks” its own deck down to 28 meters deep to accommodate war destroyers, oil platforms, and giant radars floating above, and then emerges with everything intact on top like a colossal tray crossing oceans.
This project involves the manufacturing and installation of five platforms and associated pipelines and submarine cables. The full scope of work will be carried out in-country, strengthening the long-standing relationship between Saipem and Saudi Aramco, as well as consolidating the company’s strategic position in the Middle East.
Saipem Secures Million-Dollar Offshore Drilling Contracts in the Middle East and Mediterranean Sea
Last week, Saipem had already announced the achievement of two more offshore drilling contracts worth a total of approximately US$ 550 million. The first contract foresees the continuation of operations for the self-elevating intervention rig Perro Negro 7 in the Middle East, securing an additional ten-year period for the existing contract.
The second contract involves the use of the Semi-Submersible Unit Scarabeo 9 for an estimated period of six months, with the possibility of optional extension. These contracts reinforce Saipem’s prominent position in the offshore drilling sector and its ability to provide high-performance solutions to its clients.
