Sustainable Recognition of Schneider Electric
Recently, the company was recognized as the most sustainable company in the world by Time magazine and Statista. Schneider Electric stands out in the market by offering innovative solutions in smart residential energy management, assisting homeowners, builders, and electrical installers in this task.
New Energy Management Platform
The company’s new platform is a landmark in the market as it allows for optimized energy management for two of the largest residential loads – water heaters and electric vehicle chargers – through the Wiser Home app. The solution not only enables energy monitoring but also control and optimization, offering automated load management and a predictive consumption schedule tailored to users’ lifestyles.
Predictive Algorithm and Energy Savings
Using a predictive algorithm, the AI learns from users’ habits and preferences, while also utilizing real-time weather forecasts, tariff data, energy contract limits, and solar production capacity to optimize energy savings. This feature is particularly interesting for residential energy management by managing two of the largest loads in the home.
Proprietary Technology from Schneider Electric
Developed with proprietary technology from Schneider Electric, the solution keeps all user data internally, without transfers to third parties, ensuring data security. An important point to highlight is that buildings are responsible for 37% of global CO2 emissions related to energy, with residences contributing about 20% of that total. The complexity of managing residential energy is growing due to increasing electrification and the use of technologies such as solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, and heat pumps.
Simplifying the Energy Management Process
To simplify this complexity, Schneider Electric’s new solution is designed to help homeowners optimize energy consumption and reduce costs. Through its AI functionality, the system determines the most economical times to power electric vehicle chargers or heat water, considering weather forecasts and dynamic tariffs. Additionally, it adjusts charging and heating according to the daily needs of residents, such as travel times or the number of showers, ensuring that the vehicle and hot water are ready when needed.
User Flexibility and Control
Homeowners have full control over how the AI is applied in this solution. Energy consumption can be paused during vacations or adjusted to start immediately the charging of the electric vehicle or the heating of water. The solution is particularly beneficial for homes with solar panels, as the algorithm learns from solar energy production, using meteorological data to estimate energy availability and plan load use according to that production.
Test Results and Expected Savings
In laboratory tests, homeowners with solar panels had expected annual savings between 400 and 500 euros, while those without solar panels saved between 100 and 150 euros. These values based on the French market were considered with the use of electric vehicle chargers and water heaters connected to the power grid and solar energy. However, actual results may vary depending on the installation and energy provider.
Optimization by Artificial Intelligence
‘With rising energy costs and record temperatures, homeowners are looking for alternatives that help them better manage their consumption and reduce their bills,’ says Michael Lotfy Gierges, Executive Vice President of the Residential and Distribution Division at Schneider Electric. ‘At Schneider Electric, we are at the forefront of developing solutions that promote efficiency and electrification, always aiming to build a more sustainable future. Our new AI tool is a clear example of this because it simplifies energy management for consumers,’ adds Gierges.
Availability of the New Feature
The new feature is available to Wiser Home users in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, and Austria who have the Wiser Hub, Schneider Electric’s PowerTag energy sensors, an electric vehicle charger (EV Link Home Smart, Schneider Charge, or EV Socket), and a Power micro module (water heater controller). The company will continue to invest in this technology and expanding it as a premium application to make residential energy usage even more efficient.
