Meet the Leapmotor B01, Electric Sedan from Stellantis with High Performance and Affordable Price. Understand Why It Could Change the Cheap Electric Car Market in Brazil and Check the Comparison with the Fiat Mobi

The global automotive market may undergo a turnaround soon. Stellantis, the giant that controls brands like Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, and Jeep, is about to globally launch the Leapmotor B01 — a mid-size electric sedan from Stellantis that costs in China the equivalent of a Fiat Mobi in Brazil. This aggressive pricing strategy could revolutionize the cheap electric car segment in the country and accelerate the popularization of electrified vehicles.

With mass production expected to occur from a new industrial partnership between Stellantis and Leapmotor, the model combines modern design, competitive autonomy, and an affordable proposal. This positions it as a potential milestone for the Brazilian market.

Price of the Leapmotor B01 in China is Equivalent to That of a Fiat Mobi

One of the main attractions of the Leapmotor B01 is its accessible price in the Chinese market. The model costs the equivalent of R$ 65 thousand, very close to the price of the Fiat Mobi in Brazil, which starts at R$ 72,990 for its entry-level version (data from July 2025, according to Fiat Brazil).

This direct comparison with the Fiat Mobi — a combustion subcompact — makes Stellantis’s boldness clear. The idea is to show that it is already possible to have a medium-sized electric sedan with good finishing and reasonable autonomy for prices that were previously restricted to popular gasoline or ethanol models.

What is the Leapmotor B01? Meet the Electric Sedan from Stellantis

The Leapmotor B01 is an electric sedan from Stellantis originally manufactured by the Chinese company Leapmotor, which recently entered into an agreement with the European group for production and global distribution of the models. This partnership promises to boost the presence of Chinese electric cars in the West, including Brazil.

Interior of the Leapmotor B01 – Stellantis

The B01 has the following technical characteristics, according to Leapmotor’s official website and data from Chinese media:

  • Electric motor with up to 215 hp (160 kW) in the top-of-the-line version, or 177 hp (132 kW) in the basic version.
  • Range of up to 550 km in the CLTC cycle with a 56.2 kWh battery, potentially reaching 650 km with the 67.1 kWh battery.
  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds (intermediate version) or 6.4 seconds (high-performance version).
  • DC fast charging from 30% to 80% in about 19 to 20 minutes, with charging power compatible with the Chinese standard of 85 kW.
  • Technological interior, with a 14.6-inch multimedia center, 8.8-inch digital panel, operating system with Snapdragon 8155/8295P chipset, and a full driver assistance package (ADAS), including automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and even versions with LiDAR sensors.
  • Panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, and refined interior finish with soft touch materials.

With these specifications, the Leapmotor B01 positions itself as a real and efficient option for electric mobility, without sacrificing comfort and technology.

The Global Strategy of Stellantis with Affordable Electric Vehicles

Stellantis announced in 2023 the acquisition of 20% of Leapmotor and the creation of the joint venture Leapmotor International. The goal is to use the structure of the European company to manufacture and sell Chinese electric models outside Asia, including Europe and Latin America.

According to Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, the idea is to take advantage of technological advancements and low production costs in China to “democratize access to electric mobility.” The Leapmotor B01 is a central piece in this strategy, combining competitive pricing and up-to-date technology.

The plan includes assembling vehicles outside China — which opens the possibility of local production in Brazil, especially if demand responds positively. This would reduce import taxes and make the model even more accessible.

Leapmotor B01 in Brazil: What to Expect from the Electric Sedan from Stellantis

Although there is still no official confirmation from Stellantis about the launch of the B01 in Brazil, industry sources are already speculating about its arrival. The brand may present the model under a new name or keep it as Leapmotor B01, associating it with innovation and Chinese technological advancement.

If it arrives for less than R$ 100 thousand, the B01 could represent a turning point in the cheap electric car segment, currently dominated by models like the BYD Dolphin Mini and Renault Kwid E-Tech. However, the latter two are smaller cars, while the Leapmotor offers more interior space, a larger trunk, and superior performance.

This cost-benefit ratio could attract both urban consumers and app drivers or fleet owners interested in long-term savings with electrification.

Comparison: Leapmotor B01 vs Fiat Mobi

The comparison with the Fiat Mobi is inevitable given the similar price, but the models belong to very different categories:

Feature Leapmotor B01 Fiat Mobi Like 1.0 2025
Type of Motorization 100% Electric 1.0 Flex Aspirated
Power 170 hp 74 hp with Ethanol
Range Up to 550 km (Electric) About 600 km (Gasoline/Ethanol)
Energy Consumption 13.5 kWh/100 km (Estimated) 13 km/l in the city (Ethanol)
Estimated Price R$ 65 thousand (in China) R$ 72,990 (Brazil, July/2025)
Standard Features Multimedia Center, Cruise Control, Sunroof Air Conditioning, Power Steering

The Leapmotor B01 proves to be much more advanced in technology, comfort, and performance, even being designed to cost the same as an entry-level Brazilian car.

Challenges for the Leapmotor B01 in Brazil

Despite the advantages, the B01 faces some obstacles before becoming popular here:

  • Limited Charging Infrastructure, especially outside major urban centers
  • Import Taxes and Fees, which still increase the cost of electric cars
  • Consumer Distrust towards lesser-known Chinese brands
  • Still Incipient Technical Assistance Network for unconventional electric models

On the other hand, Stellantis has a consolidated network in Brazil, which could ease the adaptation of the vehicle to our market, both in maintenance and consumer support.

The Future of Cheap Electric Cars Passes Through China and Brazil

The electric sedan from Stellantis, being sold at the same price as a popular model like the Mobi, shows that the electric revolution is already underway — and could indeed be viable for emerging countries. The arrival of the Leapmotor B01 may pressure other automakers to lower prices and expand their electric offerings.

According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), Brazil has already surpassed the mark of 240 thousand electrified vehicles in circulation by 2025, a number that is expected to grow with incentives and falling prices. Models like the B01 are fundamental to consolidating this trend.

Leapmotor B01 Could Redefine the Electric Vehicle Market in Brazil

The Leapmotor B01 represents a bold proposal: delivering an electric sedan from Stellantis with competitive autonomy, good performance, and a price compatible with popular combustion cars. The comparison with the Fiat Mobi highlights the transformative potential of this new model, which could set Brazil on the path to mass electrification.

If the price of the Leapmotor B01 in Brazil is kept close to that of China, the country could witness an unprecedented shift in the popularization of electric vehicles. This depends on public policies, incentives, infrastructure, and consumer appetite for cheap electric cars.

The arrival of this model could be the push needed to make the electric vehicle a rational, accessible, and sustainable choice for millions of Brazilians.
