Expansion Aims for Agility and More Market with New Centers in Strategic Municipalities
Shopee intensified its logistical presence in the state of Rio de Janeiro by announcing a new 30% expansion in operational capacity of its structure in July 2025.
With this, the platform aims to guarantee deliveries within 24 hours, including same-day delivery in some locations.
This strategic move comes just three months after the company tripled the capacity of its distribution center in Duque de Caxias.

More Agility to Reach New Regions
The new phase of expansion includes the opening of three logistics hubs in Itaboraí, São Gonçalo, and Magé — key cities in the metropolitan area.
According to Shopee, these locations were chosen based on the growth potential of e-commerce and the increasing demand for fast deliveries.
With the activation of these new centers, Shopee now has 20 hubs in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The measure reinforces the commitment to logistical decentralization and the optimization of delivery times.
The decision also aligns with the company’s continuous growth in Brazil.
The country now ranks third among the largest consumer markets for the platform globally.
Investment Accompanies Significant Growth
The head of Logistics Expansion at Shopee Brazil, Rafael Flores, highlighted the importance of the investment.
He stated that “logistical agility is a key component to maintaining the accelerated growth pace in the country.”
The company’s goal is to elevate operational efficiency and maintain service levels even in the face of increasing orders.
Additionally, Shopee anticipates reaching up to 2,000 direct jobs at the distribution center in Duque de Caxias by December 2025.
The expansion is expected to further stimulate the logistical ecosystem in the region, benefiting service providers, transporters, and consumers.
National Presence and Robust Infrastructure
On the national scene, Shopee has a robust structure consisting of 13 distribution centers and 150 hubs focused on first and last mile.
These numbers highlight the company’s bet on a highly vertical logistics system to serve Brazil more efficiently.
According to a report released by UBS BB, Shopee already occupies 830,000 square meters in logistics warehouses in the country.
It is second only to Mercado Livre, which leads with 2.6 million square meters.
The company surpasses Amazon, which has 545,000 square meters.
Performance and Market Share in the National Market
Logistical investments directly reflect the commercial performance of the platform.
In 2024, Shopee moved about R$ 54 billion in goods in Brazil.
The result represents a 53% growth compared to the previous year.
With this, the company secured a 15% market share in the national e-commerce sector.
Shopee’s aggressive advancement reveals a competitive landscape in digital commerce.
Fast delivery has become one of the main demands from consumers.
Therefore, the ability to reduce lead times without compromising operations is essential to maintain competitiveness.
Continued Investment in the Brazilian Market
Shopee, which belongs to the Sea Limited group, has been heavily investing in national expansion.
The company sees Brazil as a strategic environment, with high sales potential, especially in the Southeast and Northeast regions.
Constant investment in logistics demonstrates a long-term vision to consolidate the brand as one of the leaders in the sector.
In this sense, the expansion in Rio de Janeiro is part of a broader plan.
This plan includes future logistics units in other metropolitan regions.
It also anticipates increasing deliveries via partner carriers.
The expectation is that by the end of 2025, Shopee will be even closer to consumers.
The goal is to cover all Brazilian capitals with express deliveries.
Sustainable Growth and Job Creation
Although the main focus is on logistical efficiency, Shopee also emphasizes social responsibility and the creation of local jobs.
The new units are expected to favor the hiring of regional labor.
This represents an important contribution to the economic development of the involved municipalities.
Furthermore, with the digitalization of sales and the strengthening of the marketplace, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs are also benefiting.
Shopee’s model allows thousands of retailers access to modern logistical infrastructure.
This structure is offered without high distribution costs.
Will Competitors Be Able to Keep Up with This Pace?
With the intensification of operations in Rio de Janeiro and, additionally, with the expansion of the logistics network, Shopee shows that it is prepared.
Thus, the company faces the challenges of online retail efficiently and therefore maintains its increasing competitiveness in the digital sector.
The agility in deliveries, combined with an increasingly widespread infrastructure, strengthens its presence in e-commerce.
Consequently, Shopee consolidates a solid position in the national market.
