With New Request Made to Suspend Refinery Sales and the Privatization of Petrobras, Minister of Mines and Energy Adolfo Sachsida Announced the Suspension of Measures Until the End of the Current Government
According to the Correio Braziliense website, the Ministry of Mines and Energy transition team’s group requested the suspension of the sale of Petrobras assets for the privatization of the state-owned company, to Minister Adolfo Sachsida, who responded to the request by announcing the suspension of strategic measures for Petrobras until the end of the current government.
According to members of the newly elected government, the suspension of the state company’s Strategic Plan for the period 2023/2027 is also to be requested, with a deadline at the end of this month of November, in addition to the suspension of dividend payments amounting to R$ 43.7 billion.
According to Ikaro Chaves from the National Electricity Collective and a member of the transition team, the request to pause the refinery sales for the privatization of Petrobras is valid for all actions related to privatizations. “The idea is to do nothing until December 31,” he said, referring to the end of the current government.

The History of Petrobras
Private Company
Through social media, Minister Sachsida stated that he cannot interfere in the process of private law companies (in this case, Petrobras) and that, despite the limitations, he should schedule a meeting with the company’s management, as per the request of the transition group.
Among the assets on the privatization list is the Gabriel Passos Refinery (Regap) in Betim (MG), one of the eight refineries listed in the privatization agreement established between the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) and Petrobras.
Besides the refinery in Minas Gerais, three other units were put up for sale this year, but their sale processes were halted: the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) in Paraná; the Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (Refap) in Rio Grande do Sul; and the Abreu Lima Refinery (Rnest) in Pernambuco.
More Refineries of Interest
Another item of interest for the GT is the Shale Industrialization Unit (Six) in Paraná, TBG, which transports gas from Bolivia to Brazil, Bahia Terra Pole, and Albacora Leste.
“It is essential that the entire current privatization process of Petrobras units be suspended and that the rush to finalize sales at the end of the government be prevented. They are rushing to complete sales operations, the so-called ‘closing’, by December 31,” comments Deyvid Bacelar, the general coordinator of the FUP and one of the members of the GT Minas e Energia.
In 2022, the Isaac Sabbá refineries in Amazonas (Reman) and Lubricants and Derivatives of the Northeast (Lubnor) in Ceará were sold. “We must stop these privatizations,” he says.
