Volkswagen T-Cross Maintains Leadership Among The Best-Selling SUVs In The Country In 2025, Even With The Advance Of The Corolla Cross And The Arrival Of The Tera, The Brand’s New Highlight. Data From Fenabrave Shows An Increase In Sales And A Revision Of The Sector’s Projections.
The Volkswagen T-Cross is the best-selling new SUV in Brazil from January to September 2025.
According to data from Fenabrave, the model totals 65,987 registrations this year and maintains an advantage over its rivals.
However, in the monthly snapshot, September recorded a reversal: the newly launched Volkswagen Tera ended as the best-selling SUV of the month, ahead of the Toyota Corolla Cross, a movement that does not change the annual leadership of the T-Cross.
T-Cross Leads In The Accumulated Total For 2025
From January to September, the T-Cross maintains its lead among SUVs in the country.
The gap to the second place, Corolla Cross (51,973), and to the Hyundai Creta (51,632), remains comfortable, reinforcing the trend for Volkswagen to replicate last year’s performance.

September: Tera Takes The Lead Among SUVs

In September, the monthly competition was marked by the Tera’s surge, which totaled 7,610 units and surpassed the Corolla Cross (7,282).
Following closely were Nissan Kicks (6,319) and Hyundai Creta (5,953).
The following models were Chevrolet Tracker (5,657), Fiat Fastback (5,344), Jeep Compass (5,291), Honda HR-V (5,041), Volkswagen T-Cross (4,736), and Jeep Renegade (4,547).
The September list, consolidated from Renavam records and published by Fenabrave, was confirmed by specialized publications.
Automotive Market Hot Through The 3rd Quarter
The Brazilian automotive sector ended September with 1,910,519 new vehicles sold year-to-date, the best result since 2019.
This total includes automobiles, light commercials, trucks, and buses.
Compared to 2024, the increase is 2.79%.
In September, total sales reached around 243,000 units, an increase of 7.96% over August and 2.94% compared to the same month in 2024.
When segmented, automobiles accounted for 1,411,116 registrations year-to-date through September.
Light commercials recorded 396,322 units, while trucks and buses reached 103,081 in the same period.
Considering only September, automobiles closed the month at 178,548 units and light commercials at 52,822.
Heavy vehicles registered 11,895 licenses.
Revised Projections For The Market In 2025
Fenabrave has revised its estimates for 2025.
The growth forecast for automobiles and light commercials decreased from 5% to 3%, expecting 2,559,345 units for the year.
For trucks, the projection is a 7% drop (113,552), and for buses, a 6% increase (29,336).
In the aggregate, including all segments, the agency now estimates 2.7 million units for 2025, an increase of 2.6%.
According to the president of Fenabrave, Arcelio Júnior, the main constraint is the more expensive credit.
He stated that “if we had a lower interest rate, growth would be much more aggressive, exceeding the 5% projected at the beginning of the year.”
The statements were made during the disclosure of the September balance.
Performance And Autonomy Of The T-Cross

Although it ranked only 9th among SUVs for the month of September, the T-Cross preserves the annual leadership by combining stable production, a wide range, and high presence in direct sales.
The versions with 1.0 TSI engine and six-speed automatic transmission account for a significant portion of the volume, offering sufficient performance for urban use and competitive fuel consumption.
In independent assessments, the T-Cross 1.0 recorded highway consumption between 14 and 17 km/l with gasoline, depending on the version and measurement cycle.
Another favorable point is its autonomy.
With a tank of up to 52 liters and highway consumption close to 15 km/l in real use conditions, the SUV achieves about 700 km on a single tank.
Direct Competitors And Ranking Movement
The Toyota Corolla Cross maintained a pace above 7,000 units per month for the second consecutive month and is the main challenger in the accumulated total, although still behind the T-Cross.
Hyundai Creta and Chevrolet Tracker alternate positions based on campaigns and version availability, while the Honda HR-V shows regular strength in the annual top 5.
In September, the surprise was the Nissan Kicks, which jumped to over 6,000 registrations and rose in the monthly ranking.
Outlook For The Final Quarter
The monthly competition is expected to remain more volatile, especially with the VW Tera consolidating its offering and network, along with potential price adjustments and packages from manufacturers.
In the macro scenario, Fenabrave’s more moderate projection for 2025 and the high interest rates should keep competition fierce for market share, with a greater emphasis on direct sales and targeted promotional actions.
With the annual leadership seemingly secured for the T-Cross and a September that crowned the Tera among the SUVs of the month, which of these models will set the sales pace in the last quarter of the year?
