Tesla Reaches 10 Million Drive Units and Plans to Manufacture One Motor Every Second. See How the Company Is Transforming the Electric Car Market with Cutting-Edge Technology

Tesla continues achieving record numbers in its unique race to democratize the electric car. The latest announcement from the company is related to the production of electric motors, which currently come off the line at a rate of 1 motor every 5 seconds, but Elon Musk wants to quintuple that rate. Tesla has several official profiles on social media, including one specifically for posting news and updates about the company’s Gigafactories.

It was on the Tesla Gigafactories profile on X that the company announced the production of the 10 millionth drive unit, which was manufactured at Giga Shanghai. The drive unit is not just the electric motor. In addition to the electric motor, it consolidates the inverter, the reducer (a single-speed transmission), the differential, the cooling system, and the electronic control unit all in one casing. Depending on the Tesla model being discussed, it can house one, two, or even three electric motors (or propulsors).

The Power of Elon Musk’s Electric Motors

In smaller drive units, such as those powering the Model 3 at the front axle, the electric motor delivers 215 HP (158 kW) of power. In the more powerful variants, a single motor reaches 427 HP (314 kW), as is the case with the Plaid models, which use a total of 3 motors to provide 1,020 horsepower. We cannot forget about the Tesla Semi, the electric truck from the American brand, which uses the same motors as the Model S/Model X Plaid.

Production Rate and Elon Musk’s Vision for Electric Cars

The production rate is another interesting data point that Tesla published. According to the American company, a new drive unit comes off the production line every five seconds at one of its factories around the world. An astounding rate, indeed, that Elon Musk wants to multiply. Not short on ambition or laziness, the main figure responsible for Tesla stated on his social media that someday “Tesla will manufacture one propulsor per second.”

Recently, Tesla has shown impressive performance in the delivery and production of electric vehicles. In the second quarter of 2024, the company produced approximately 411,000 vehicles and delivered around 444,000 units, exceeding market expectations. This performance comes despite challenges in the supply chain and adjustments in production. Tesla’s ability to maintain robust production is crucial to meet its ambitious annual production goals.

Expansion and Innovation at Tesla

In addition to electric motors, Tesla is expanding its facilities and investing in new technologies to improve production efficiency. The Gigafactory Texas, for example, is planning an expansion of $700 million, significantly increasing the production capacity of vehicles and components. These investments are part of Elon Musk’s plan to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy and increase the accessibility of electric cars.

The company is also innovating in other areas, such as developing more efficient batteries and energy storage systems. In the second quarter of 2024, Tesla set a new record by deploying 9.4 GWh of energy storage products, more than double the previous record. These advances are essential to support the infrastructure needed for Tesla’s growing fleet of electric vehicles and contribute to the stability of the electrical grids.

With a clear vision and a commitment to innovation, Tesla continues to lead the electric vehicle market, not just with the production of efficient motors, but also with comprehensive solutions for a sustainable future.

. Destaque para o lead time desta montagem.
