Kia confirms electric Picanto for 2027 with affordable price, up to 480 km of range and focus on popularizing electric cars in Europe.

According to information from AutoEsporte, Kia has confirmed that it will launch a new electric compact hatch by 2027, possibly called electric Picanto, with an estimated price between 20,000 and 25,000 euros (around R$ 120,000 to R$ 150,000). The model will be positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric car in Europe, focusing on expanding access to sustainable mobility, competing with direct rivals, and increasing the share of electrified vehicles by the end of the decade.

This news comes after the presentation of the EV2 earlier this year and reinforces Kia’s strategy to rapidly expand its electric lineup. The future electric Picanto is expected to take the entry-level position, broadening the portfolio and making technology more accessible to a larger audience.

Kia electric Picanto should expand access to electric cars

Kia’s proposal with the electric Picanto is clear: reduce the entry cost in the electric vehicle segment. In this way, the brand aims to attract consumers who still consider electric models expensive or inaccessible.

Furthermore, the hatch is expected to face strong competitors in the European market. Among them are models like the BYD Dolphin, the Peugeot e-208, and the Renault 5, which are already competing in the electric compact segment.

Therefore, the arrival of the electric Picanto not only expands options but also intensifies competition in one of the most strategic segments of the current automotive industry.

Dimensions and proposal: compact on the outside, spacious on the inside

Although it is a compact car, the new model from Kia is expected to surprise with its interior space. This will be possible thanks to the use of the E-GMP platform, dedicated exclusively to electric vehicles.

Check the estimated dimensions:

  • Length: about 4.06 meters
  • Width: 1.80 meters
  • Height: 1.57 meters
  • Wheelbase: 2.56 meters

These measurements place the electric Picanto close to compact SUVs, ensuring better use of the cabin. In comparison, the current combustion Picanto has a shorter wheelbase, which limits interior space.

Meanwhile, Kia is expected to maintain combustion versions in the market, showing that the transition to electric will be gradual.

Range of the new Kia hatch can reach 480 km

One of the highlights of the electric Picanto is its range. The expectation is that the model will use batteries similar to those of the EV2, with two main options:

  • 42.2 kWh: range of approximately 320 km
  • 61 kWh: range of up to 480 km

With this, Kia’s hatch can cater to both urban users and those who need greater range in their daily lives.

On the other hand, to keep the price competitive, the model is expected to use a 400V architecture, different from the 800V systems present in the brand’s more expensive vehicles.

Modern design follows Kia identity

Visually, the electric Picanto is expected to follow Kia’s new identity, marked by straighter and more minimalist lines. The proposal bets on a modern yet functional look.

Among the expected highlights are:

  • LED headlights with vertical signature
  • Tail lights positioned on the bumper
  • Simple and aerodynamic lines

Thus, even being an entry-level model, the car is expected to maintain a visual standard aligned with the brand’s more sophisticated vehicles.

Global strategy includes 14 electrics by 2030

The launch of the electric Picanto is part of Kia’s ambitious plan. The automaker intends to offer 14 electric vehicles globally by 2030.

This portfolio will consist of:

  • 2 passenger cars
  • 9 SUVs
  • 3 commercial vehicles

Additionally, the company will continue to invest in hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies, expanding options for different consumer profiles.

According to Kia’s CEO, Ho Sung Song, the goal is to make electric vehicles more accessible and viable. To achieve this, the brand is also working on expanding the charging infrastructure.

New platform promises more efficient batteries

Another important point of Kia’s strategy involves the development of a new electric platform. This architecture will replace the current E-GMP in the coming years.

Among the expected advancements are:

  • 40% increase in battery capacity
  • 9% gain in motor power
  • Fifth-generation batteries
  • Reduction of up to 30% in production costs

Additionally, energy density is expected to grow by about 15%, allowing for greater range without increasing the size of the batteries.

Kia electric Picanto not confirmed in Brazil yet

Despite its great potential, the electric Picanto does not yet have a confirmed launch in Brazil. Initially, Kia’s focus will be the European market.

However, the brand is already planning a strong renewal in the country. The group responsible for local operations announced eight launches for the coming years.

Among them are:

  • New medium pickup Tasman
  • Updates of models like Sportage and Sorento
  • New electrics like EV3
  • Electric van PB5
  • New Stonic as entry-level SUV

Thus, even without the electric Picanto, Kia’s presence in Brazil is expected to grow significantly.

Electric Picanto marks a new phase for Kia

With a competitive price, good range, and focus on accessibility, the electric Picanto represents an important strategic step. Kia bets on the model to popularize electric cars and accelerate the energy transition.

Thus, the compact hatch may become one of the main protagonists of the new generation of sustainable urban vehicles in Europe.
