The Vital Importance of Ports in International Trade

Ports play a crucial role in foreign trade, accounting for approximately 90% of cargo movement worldwide. Helmuth Hofstatter, CEO and founder of Logcomex, a pioneering technology company for foreign trade, highlights that the ten largest global ports are central to financial movement in the sector. “Most of these ports are in China, reflecting a mix of strategic, economic, and geographic factors,” explains Hofstatter.

Port Giants and Their Global Influence

Shanghai, China, tops the list as the world’s largest port, with an impressive throughput of over 47 million TEUs in 2022. This port is a significant economic hub, serving the Yangtze River Delta, a region of intense economic activity and advanced production. Singapore follows in second place, with over 37 million TEUs, recognized as the largest transshipment center in the world.

Ningbo-Zhoushan, also in China, ranks third, with 33.35 million TEUs. This port stood out as an alternative during the COVID-19 lockdowns in Shanghai. Shenzhen, famous for its special economic zone and throughput of 30.03 million TEUs, and Qingdao, with 25.67 million TEUs, are other examples of China’s preeminence in global ports.

Other Significant Ports and the Role of Logcomex

Guangzhou, China, and Busan, South Korea, are notable ports for their throughput and logistical efficiency. Tianjin, the largest port in northern China, and Hong Kong, known for its historical importance, are also crucial for global logistics. Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, is a vital point in European trade, handling over 14 million TEUs.

Logcomex, under the leadership of Helmuth Hofstatter, plays a fundamental role by providing advanced technology for foreign trade, facilitating planning, monitoring, and automation of the global supply chain. Established in 2016, the company is already present in over 11 countries, offering innovative solutions to optimize foreign trade operations.

Logcomex and its CEO, Helmuth Hofstatter, with their extensive experience in international logistics and foreign trade, exemplify how expertise and technological innovation can transform the global maritime trade sector, emphasizing the importance of ports in the global economic landscape.
