BNDES Released R$ 100 Million for FS Bioenergia in Mato Grosso and Another R$ 40 Million for Alcoeste in São Paulo. Through the RenovaBio Program, the Bank Plans to Stimulate the Expansion of Ethanol Production in Both States.
Aiming to contribute to the national sugar-energy sector in the coming years, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) released last Friday (03/03) R$ 140 million in financing through RenovaBio. The companies FS Bioenergia and Alcoeste, located in Mato Grosso and São Paulo, respectively, will use the funds to expand their production capacity at the ethanol plants in both states over the next few months.

BNDES has been seeking ways to support the national sugar-energy sector intensively for several years. Now, through RenovaBio, the bank announced another important initiative for the sector.
R$ 100 million in financing has been released for FS Bioenergia, an ethanol production company located in Mato Grosso. In addition, the São Paulo company Alcoeste received R$ 40 million from the bank for investments in the fuel production chain.

With this, BNDES aims to contribute to the entire chain of the national sugar-energy sector, boosting the segment.
These are the first financings of the new RenovaBio, after the changes made by the bank. According to the changes, the program reduced interest rates last December and began adopting carbon emission reduction targets according to each project.
Launched in 2021 to support the Brazilian sugar-energy sector, the bank’s program has already released R$ 1 billion in financing for a portfolio of 12 operations.
With the new credits for FS Bioenergia and Alcoeste to invest in ethanol production, the bank intends to continue supporting the segment in 2023.
After Credit Release for FS Bioenergia and Alcoeste, National Bank Projects Issuance of 3.4 Million RenovaBio Decarbonization Credits in One Year
In addition to boosting the Brazilian sugar-energy segment, BNDES also seeks to contribute to the decarbonization of the national industry.
With the R$ 140 million released for FS Bioenergia and Alcoeste, the bank expects to issue 3.4 million RenovaBio decarbonization credits within a year.
This would represent a 13% increase compared to current numbers. Each CBIO is equivalent to one ton of carbon that was not emitted in the production of biofuels.
The RenovaBio credits from BNDES are entirely linked to current ESG sustainability initiatives, helping to minimize the environmental impacts of the energy industry.
“The incentive for increasing energy-environmental efficiency in biofuel production aligns with the current government’s commitment to an effective environmental agenda, reestablishing RenovaBio as a fundamental tool for the decarbonization of our fuel matrix, generating incentives for suppliers and ensuring greater predictability for buyers,” highlighted Pietro Mendes, Secretary of Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels of the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
Now, FS Bioenergia and Alcoeste have taken advantage of the support from the BNDES RenovaBio program to boost the ethanol sector in the states of MT and SP.
