Anglo American And Tim Enter Into New Partnership For 4G In Nickel And Iron Ore Mining
One of the leaders in the telecommunications sector in Brazil, TIM, has reached an agreement with Anglo American, which is one of the leading companies in the iron ore mining sector globally, that will allow the expansion of 4G LTE coverage to five operational plants located in Goiás, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais, increasing efficiency and enabling the expansion of connectivity projects, even in more critical regions and activities. Mining Sector Is Responsible For 4% Of GDP, Agreement Between TIM And Anglo American Promises To Be Promising
The agreement between TIM and Anglo American signifies the entry of telecom into the iron ore mining market, which, according to Ibram, generated over 150 million in revenue in 2019 alone, thus accounting for 4% of GDP. “Supporting connectivity in mines is essential to ensure the continuous implementation of new technologies within a production process,” states TIM’s Corporate Solutions Director, Paulo Humberto Gouvêa.
The expansion of 4G coverage to the cities of Barro Alto and Niquelândia (GO) will allow Anglo American to enhance the management of up to 44,000 tons of ferronickel per year. The operation is responsible for the group’s main global nickel production, primarily used in the stainless steel industry. In the mining municipalities of Conceição do Mato Dentro and Alvorada de Minas lies the Minas-Rio plant, responsible for the extraction and processing of iron ore. From there, the product is transported via pipeline to the Port of Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ). At the port, the company has a plant responsible for the filtration process of the iron ore that will be exported.
