Scheduled to arrive in 2025, the Toyota Yaris Cross, in addition to being the Toyota's cheapest SUV promises to be the most hybrid in Brazil. This compact SUV, capable of reaching up to 30 km/l, will be a flex hybrid designed to compete with models such as the Honda HR-V, Nissan Kicks, Chevrolet Tracker and Hyundai Creta and Jeep Renegade. Potentially, the Yaris Cross will be the first full hybrid compact SUV (HEV) available in Brazil, using the same system as the Toyota Corolla and Corolla Cross models, but with different engines. The use of ethanol can improve the 92 hp and 12,3 kgfm of torque produced by the Thai model.

Focused on performance and economy, the Toyota Yaris Cross will be equipped with a hybrid system that combines a 1.5 16V flex engine with an 81 hp electric motor, generating a total power of 113 hp and 14,9 kg of torque. This package is accompanied by an eCVT transmission and an energy regeneration system, allowing an impressive 30 km/l.

A non-electrified 1.5 16V engine is also available for the most basic versions, producing around 106 hp and 14,1 kgfm, values similar to those of the Yaris hatch and sedan produced in Brazil using gasoline. Mini SUV Yaris Cross is the cheapest car from Japanese Toyota and will be manufactured in Sorocaba (SP)

Toyota is investing R$1,7 billion in the plant in Sorocaba, São Paulo, for the local production of the Yaris Cross. To achieve the objective of being the cheapest hybrid in Brazil, the Toyota Yaris Cross only needs to have a starting price lower than the R$ 187.790 currently charged by the Corolla Altis Hybrid.

The expectation is that prices will start at around R$150.000 for the 1.5 model and R$165.000 for the hybrid, positioning it competitively with the Honda HR-V, which has a 1.5 hp 126 engine.

This initiative not only promises more competitive prices but will also boost the local economy, generating jobs and promoting the Brazilian automobile industry.
