Petrol, a Multinational Oil and Fuel Company, Announced Its Intention to Install Photovoltaic Solar Panels at All of Its Gas Stations in Slovenia; the Company Announced That at Least 46 Stations Will Be Equipped for the Energy Transition by Migrating to Solar Power.

Financing was obtained through Petrol Green, a project aimed at raising European funds for the transition with solar panel implementation. The multinational, headquartered in Slovenia, has been investing in renewable energy and also operates a wind renewable energy production station in Croatia.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the brand reportedly received €445,000 from the Europe Cohesion Fund to finance the installation on the roofs of its stations by the end of 2022. They are planned to have a combined average capacity of 2.4 MW.

Despite the average timeline for the completion of SE Petrol Green 1 and SE Petrol Green 2 being by the end of October 2023, the institution stated that if everything goes well, they should finish the installations by December 2022.

Petrol Submitted an Application Last Month to Receive Project Funding

Petrol stated that it applied last month to obtain authorization from the Ministry for investments to initiate the three-digit project. The Petrol Group stated that the new investments in the energy transition will be crucial for the sustainable low-carbon development of the institution.

€17 Million Invested in Croatia

At the beginning of 2022, the Petrol Group announced an investment of over €17 million in the construction of solar power plants in Croatia with a minimum production capacity of 22 MW. The brand is also participating in a project to create the first geothermal power plant in Slovenia.

More About Solar Energy This Week: Solar Panels Could Be Created to Float on the Sea with Extremely Lightweight and Flexible Materials

In addition to the announcement that Petrol plans to invest in the energy transition with the implementation of solar panels at its fuel stations, this week German company RWE also announced that they are developing solar panels that float on the sea due to their extremely lightweight and flexible structure. This news could benefit the offshore sector, as companies operating along the coast still heavily depend on non-renewable fuels and fluctuations in commodity prices.

According to the institution, these new solar panels will be produced by the industry starting in 2023, with testing set to begin in the North Sea, where one of the largest hybrid and aquatic solar energy centers in all of Europe will be established. According to the developers, the panels are so lightweight and durable that they resemble carpets and are not at risk of sinking.

Another recently released study shows that American scientists are also developing a solar panel using seaweed. The seaweed can capture UV rays and produce energy while performing its photosynthesis processes. Another positive aspect of this type of panel is that the seaweed can exponentially reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the environment, controlling temperature and global warming.
