Andreas Mindt, chief designer of the German automaker, announced that the iconic sporty version of the Golf will have a fully electric version starting in 2026. With a legacy that dates back to 1975, the Golf GTI has always been a symbol of sportiness and is now preparing for a new era powered by batteries, according to Estadão.
The confirmation came through an Instagram post by Mindt, who compared the original 1975 Golf GTI with what appears to be the futuristic version of the model. In the caption, he highlighted the importance of the GTI in Volkswagen’s history and announced the arrival of the electric version in 2026.
