New Biomass Plant in Três Lagoas (MS) Starts Operations After Testing Phases and Will Generate Several Job Vacancies
Last Thursday (8), the biomass plant in MS officially started operations and will generate several job vacancies. The plant’s construction had already been completed, but final tests of the boiler, turbine, and continuous energy production were still needed for the MS Plant to be registered as completed with the National Operator of the Electric System (ONS).

The MS biomass plant is powered by eucalyptus stumps and roots and has been named Onça Pintada. It operates within the Eldorado Brasil pulp factory complex in Três Lagoas.
The biomass plant testing lasted four days, during which it had to operate continuously to prove that it had completed the necessary stages to enter operation.

MS Biomass Plant Is Expected to Generate Many Job Vacancies
The MS plant utilizes steam produced by the combustion of organic materials, which are the unused eucalyptus stumps and roots. This steam drives a turbine connected to a generator that produces electricity. Thus, the biomass plant can make full use of the eucalyptus crop. The energy generated by the biomass plant will also be sold to Aneel.
It will provide 50 MWh of electricity to the national system. This generation can supply a city with approximately 300,000 inhabitants. It will consume approximately 1,500 tons of eucalyptus biomass daily.
New Job Vacancies Before and After Completion
The construction of the Onça Pintada biomass plant began in March 2019, and since then, more than 1,500 job vacancies have been offered for construction. Last year, with the onset of the new coronavirus pandemic, the plant’s construction faced significant challenges and was even completely halted, but at Aneel’s request, work resumed with a reduced number of employees.
Once completed, the plant is proposing over 100 job vacancies for MS in various areas, both technical and higher education.
The investment for the construction of the plant was approximately R$350 million, funds that were entirely from Eldorado, the company behind this large project that did not rely on investors.
