After Being Idle for 05 Years, the Power Plant in Rio Grande do Sul May Resume Operations and Generate New Jobs

Uruguaiana Plant Should Benefit from An Expected Surplus of Gas in Argentina with the Start of Summer
The shutdown of the power plant in Rio Grande do Sul is due to low demand and difficulties faced by AES Tiete to establish itself in the gas market; the power plant was activated only for an emergency in 2015 after being idle for years in 2009.
“The plant in Rio Grande do Sul will definitely be available to generate during the summer there… until mid-March, April, it will certainly have gas availability, as we were informed by Saesa.

And then we have to see how the winter will be in Argentina, how the demand will be there”, explained Faria. Apart from the diesel and fuel oil plants, all others are operational, all the natural gas plants. The expectation is that at least in November they will maintain the same level of dispatch.
Sale of the Uruguaiana Plant
AES Uruguaiana was built in the 1990s and inaugurated in 2000. To operate, the American AES, owner of the plant on the southern border, faced difficulties in sourcing gas from Argentina.
The AES Uruguaiana power plant was sold to the Argentine group Saesa Solución Energética. The president of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Reestablishment of Gas Production by Termo Uruguaiana, Deputy Frederico Antunes (PP), received confirmation of the sale in September from the CEO of AES Brazil Group, engineer Ítalo Freitas. Frederico had been waiting for the response to the negotiation for 40 days.
