After Being Idle for 05 Years, the Power Plant in Rio Grande do Sul May Resume Operations and Generate New Jobs
The Uruguaiana power plant, located in Rio Grande do Sul, may be resumed this November. The power plant has been inactive since 2015. With the arrival of winter, the government stated that it will need to reactivate the plant, as hydroelectric plants are the main sources of energy for Brazilian capitals.

The shutdown of the power plant in Rio Grande do Sul is due to low demand and difficulties faced by AES Tiete to establish itself in the gas market; the power plant was activated only for an emergency in 2015 after being idle for years in 2009.

Sale of the Uruguaiana Plant
AES Uruguaiana was built in the 1990s and inaugurated in 2000. To operate, the American AES, owner of the plant on the southern border, faced difficulties in sourcing gas from Argentina.
The AES Uruguaiana power plant was sold to the Argentine group Saesa Solución Energética. The president of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Reestablishment of Gas Production by Termo Uruguaiana, Deputy Frederico Antunes (PP), received confirmation of the sale in September from the CEO of AES Brazil Group, engineer Ítalo Freitas. Frederico had been waiting for the response to the negotiation for 40 days.
